| | Just some questions Hey I just wanted to know about some long term effects of taking painkillers. Ive been doing them for almost two years (I had no idea that its been that long!!)I take short breaks in between periods of usage. but lately ive noticed that when im speaking I mess up my sentances alot and I cant talk right. I have to concentrate much harder on things I am trying to say and I was wondering if this could be from taking pills for such a long time. I know Im lucky that I dont get sick when I take breaks and I should just quit while im ahead but its not that easy for me, I was clean for two days, until today and all I could think about was finding some, I felt really anxiouse and it was driving me insane not being able to find any and not being able to get my mind off of it. the thought of never doing them again makes me feel like crying. idk.. I really DO want to stop and never ever do it again but I dont know what to do or where to turn I cannot tell my family.
Thanks for your time,
Kate. |

| | hi runz/wscissors
i have been on pain killers for on and off 10 yr. it sounds like you are going through withdrawl,it sounds like you are at the brink, even though that you dont seem to have much prolems when you take breaks {maybe because you know that the break is only for a short time until you have more} today probably told you something ,that maybe its time to stop before it gets worse. I havent told my family either. When you are ready to stop, try weening yourself down, then hopfully off for good . but you have to want to do it for yourself.
this is why we are here is to listen and give you the support you need to get yor life back.

| | The longterm effects of opiates is addiction for sure. The opiate itself is actually pretty safe as far as the major orgins in the body are concerned. What you have to watch out for is the tylenol in some of the quick release pills like vic's or percocet, these can cause liver and kidney damage with prolonged use and abuse. The quicker you get off these pills the better or at least switch to a long acting painkiller like ms contin (sustained release morphine).....Dave |

Im worried that if I do take one it will make me sick, is it commen for peope to get sick from those morphine pills? what about people who use painkillers on a regular basis? |

| | Yes,if your opiate tolerant then you won't get sick but if you rarely do opiates then your likely going to throw up.If you want to avoid this then take a gravol with the pill and you won't get sick.....Dave |

| | If on a regular basis and it's way stronger then what you usually take, it'll sedate you, some people get really jacked from them too. It may make you feel too good and that may be a problem for you, it may be a feeling you'll try and chase and get yourself in trouble over.

| | Runz, morphine is 10 times stronger the codeine, so doing the math, taking one 30mg morphine pill would be equal to you taking 15 20mg codeine pills (btw tylenol #3 are 30mg codeine), and you can expect it to last for 5 hours. Obviously if you only take codeine, it's going to hit you [u]HARD</u>, plus you're on the small side. You're not going to stay awake long enough to enjoy it, so why bother? Bad idea
