mumbled .... thebanner is right. You don't start taking methadone just because it's cheap. That is the totally wrong thing to do. Tell us more about your problem, then we can suggest things that perhaps will help you and not just mask the problem. God bless.

Starting methadaone for back pain? You are getting on board a train bound for hell .I was in an accident 7 years ago and have taken every type of pain pill including dones for my back and to abuse..I can help you with your problem if you tell me your back condition history and any pain pills you have taken in the past.I have info on new procedures thanks to Erin, a member of this forum.I can also tell you about nerve blocks and other options for you..You will be sorry if you start methadone in a big way.It is a place you don't want to go.I will even give you advice on other opiates if that is where you want to go.Don't use methadone for this.

Question why im on meds

i started abusing opiates before i actually needed them. then i was injured in college (thrown down sairs in cold winter vt) ********ed my back up. drs/parents thought i was just in it for pills (i wasnt). then i worked as a dishwasher and glassblower (at the same time). finally i kept complaining and complaining and finally got an MRI and dr said my discs are all messed up and referred me to a pain clinic (where i told them my drug history etc). They started me 4 years ago on durgesic 12s month later 25;s, then 25s with avinza 90mg, pain was being managed but as i quit dishwashing and did more glass i was putting lots of strain on it and was still feeling the back pain. he explained we couldnt get rid of it completely w meds, (btw i did get 4 or 5 nerve blocks and lumbar epiderals none of which did anything but irritate it). so i stayed with what i was on for a while. As of december I was on 3 oxy 40s a day and a 5mg patch. i lost insurance but was able to get 3 months of oxy before it lapsed. then i got ahold of dr and said i couldnt afford the patches (until i get new ins) so he perscribed 3-4 methadone 10s in place of the patch. i have heard so many horror stories, and what you guys JUST said, i dont want to take it!
i have got a ciouple patches from friend to keep me going (i cant take the oxy by itself, i have to have the patch in order to be comfortable). so... since i dont want methadone, and first started using opiates in my teens (to get high), now i want the meds to do what they are supposed to, but dont want done. Thanks for listening any help would be much appreciated. (so i guess my new question is, im 26, im going to get insurance but i wont for a few months...what is a cheap pain medicine that is like a durgesic 50 that is cheap (like methadone, it only cost me like 40$ as apposed to $500).
Thanks again
Peace and take care of your body

mumbled ... I understand your dilemma with building up a tolerance to RX opiates. I would not recommend methadone short term as previously explained. I think you should try to find alternative methods of treatment. Talk more with musicman about things he is doing for his back.

I realize that you've been taking these meds for some time. But that is not something that we can really help at this point. There aren't any cheap pain medications. Methadone is probably one of the least expensive of all. But due to the nature of the methadone I still wouldn't recommend it short term.

I don't know what to recommend in the way of opiate medications that are cheap. Talking with musicman about the options that Erin provided him are still probably your best and safest bet. Good luck and God bless.

Really stinks that you do not have good ins.It just so happens that I have an appt today with a new ,young Chiropractor later this afternoon about the newest treatments available..I will get back to you tonight with some ideas. The fact that you used to abuse opiates is a sign that you need alternative pain relief.Same goes for me.I can't take pain meds because I don't have the self dicipline to use them properly.I will get back to you this evening with some info about what I find out today and methods I have used in the past.I know this does not answer your question but I find it hard to dispense opiate advise to an abuser. Please take no offense to this.I am still going to try to help you even though this is not what you wanted. Please post back if you are interested.good luck

Methadone is an exellent pain killer but it should be used as a last resort and only for a chronic pain patient. If it comes down to the point that you know you're going to be on opiate painkillers for the rest of your life then I would suggest methadone. Also with your abuse history , methadone would take care of that.
You should try everything else before you make this jump. Good luck.....Dave

mumbled ... what you describe with methadone is why I said don't take it unless it's for the long haul as in for the rest of your life. It's not a good medication for the short term. Same thing that Dave said above too.

I hate to say this but I think you can see by now that there isn't really any pain medication that works like the patch and all the other meds they've had you on that is cheap. Methadone is the least expensive strong medication I know of but I wouldn't take it just because it's cheap.

I just don't know what to tell you. There is not a good answer except that what you're asking for doesn't exist ... a cheap med that works as good as what you're used to??? Sorry dude. God bless.
