Default How do methadone clinics work?

Could someone please tell me how the generally work..I also have a few questions...

The clinic in my area is 11 dollars per visit...After a certain amount of days, I hear I can get take homes...Is this true? If after I been going there for a year will I have more than just 1 take home day? How does this usually work in most clinics? What is the the maximum amount of take homes you can achieve if you've been good?. I mean 11 dollars a day gets VERY VERY expensive and it would be very redundant do go there every single day...

The clinic in my area closes at 10am...What is with this time? I usually have school at 8am so that means I will have to get up an hour early to make it to the clinic...Are the wait times there very long? Like hours? How is the wait time usually and what time should I go to minimize wait time?

If I were to get started on methadone through the clinic, how would that affect my work? Am I protected? Do I admit to taking methadone on my drug screenings?

How do the dosings work? It will probably take me a week or two to figure out what is good for me. Do I get to change my dosage up or down after months of me going?

And last but not least...I am told by a friend that goes there that I need to make sure and do opiates the day before I go there because they will do a drug test to verify that I actually do opiates...Is this true? I'm taking opiates but worry that I might get rejected because of wrong place wrong time type situation...Can someone explain this to me?

I wish that I could help you,but I've only been on methadone once and that was in a rehab,I am now on suboxone...

MVPT is the expert of this board for methadone,so I am sure he can help you out,and I also know that he belongs to a methadone support forum that he directs people to...Just hang in there he is usually on here everyday....

When you go to a methadone clinic they have you fill out forms and you have to meet a certain criteria before they even accept you.So if you've been addicted for more then five years everyday and are taking morphine, dilaudid fentanyl ect then your probably ok for methadone. If your addicted to codeine, hydrocodone then you should probably look into buprenorphene(suboxone, subutex).
Back to the methadone clinic. Most clinics require that you leave weekly urine samples that are free of all illict drugs also no opiates, benzo's and some don't even allow THC (pot). After you have gone 90 days with just taking methadone then you can qualify for a one day take home. After that you have to be clean every time before you advance to the next take home level.Hope that helps....Dave

mpvt...I've read many of your posts and appreciate your help in this community. I notice that you have quite a strong opinion again methdone treatment in hydrocodone addiction. I take all and any opiates that I can get a hold of...For example, I did dope for 4 months because I couldnt' get any oxys (never ever injected, only snorted...I hate needles). Then after that I was able to get oxys for 3 months...Now it's a combination of oxys and hydrocodones...Last week I did oxy 80s and 40s, this week my dealer cant get them so I just do 100mg daily hydocodone (10x10)...To say that since I take hydrocodone-only means that I take anything to fill in that craving... buprenorphene(suboxone, subutex) is too expensive for me.

I've been in the methadone clinic a year, I have a full time job 5:30am -2:30pm, I get 6 take homes a week. If you have an incompatibility, they'll give you take homes, otherwise, you have to come everyday, period. If you have a full time job you can get what i have which they call a "seth" don't ask me what it means, i have no idea. But there is steps to the program, and you can only get the steps IF you have ajob. School does not count. My clinic is open 6:15am - 1:30pm every day exept the weekends, they're open 7am - 10am then. If you're been 'god' doesn't count for anything, They don't care how good or bad you are, they care if yo have a job or incompatibility that won't allow you to come everyday. I know that sounds harsh but that's just how they run their clinics. I don't know if they're all the same, But all the ones in my area are. So i'm guessing most are like that.

Although I'd say it's worth coming everyday, IT's better than having to get a liver transplant and waiting on a list to get ne when the vicodin kills your liver. Believe me, it will happen if you continue absusing them. I was addicted to vicodin for 4 years and I have a partial liver left, PArtial meaning i have hardly half of it left, although half of it does work for my body, it still could die out if i went back to abusing drugs. I urge you to get to a clinic right away i fyou haven't done so already. methadone won't get you high obviously, But it will take away all withdrawls and make you feel 'normal' per say. It's better than worying about where you're going to get your next fix and if you even can. That's the worst part about taking pills, you never know wherre your next ones will come from or if they'll be available. Fortuantly, Methadone is always available.

Where i live, it costs 150$ each half of the month, or $300 a month, My clinic does accept medical and private incurances so if you have nsurance, check to see if they cover methadone tretment before paying. I might be young, I'm only 18, i'll be 19 in 2 months, But I know how bad opiod addiction can harm you, Not only you but the people around you.
