Angry Help! Need advice on Subs & dental work

Has anyone had any dental work done while taking suboxone?
Please, please, please if you have had dental work, please tell me how things worked for you. I am really freaking out right now!!!

I have been putting off getting some dental work done and now its biting me in the butt. I am currently taking 2 mg per day of suboxone--and don't think I can get tapered down before seeing the dentist. Most likely a root canal and cap will be involved.

I put it off because they couldn't get my tooth numb (different tooth) a couple of years ago when I was on methadone and hydrocodone--and now I am sooooo scared!

Will they be able to get me numbed up ON the suboxone?
If not, am I going to have to go off of suboxone?
Is going to be horrible when the numbness (if possible) goes away?

I have other questions but these are the main areas of concern right now.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!!!!

Default Gettingthere

I had dental work done while I was on Suboxone about a year and a half ago and I was numbed with Novocaine and I had no problem. I just could not take any narcotic pain medication orally.

You didn't have to adjust your suboxone?
They had no problems getting you numbed up?

Thats great!!!!
I'm still soooo nervous! But starting to feel a little better.

Thanks for the reply Uneek!!!

gettingthere ...UNEEK is correct in my experience. You will have a painful jaw when the novacaine wears off for a day or so but it's nothing you shouldn't be able to handle.

I had to get four upper right teeth pulled for a partial. I didn't do any medication except to have them load me up on gas. By the time the extractions were done my mouth was packed with cotton and I was fine. The novacaine wore off and it did hurt for a day but it wasnt anything I couldn't handle.

I did it without pain meds and had no significant problems. God bless.

Several years ago, I had several teeth pulled while I was on methadone. Dentist gave me tylenol with codiene which was more than a joke. It did zero for the pain. When I asked for something stronger, he refused and told me to take perscription strength Motrin (sorry, don't know the mgs. but it was equivilant to 4 over the counter Motrins - 2 if gotten by perscription). For years I'd been an addict and of the mindset if it wasnt narcotic it couldnt possibly work. Miracle of miracles, the Motrin took the pain away beautifully, way better than the codiene, and I didn't need anything else.
