Arrow Help Me Taper...I am Trying so Hard!

I have been taking 240-260 mg of oxycontin for 3 yeaRS, Worksd up gradual since going on Pain Meds for back in 1997. I am so tired to taking it. I am a spiritual person and I dispise living in this fog, plus I think I may be taking more that My pain needs. I never abuse my prescribed dose and over the past 2 weeks, I have dropper down to taking a 1/4 of a 60 mg (I have always cut them) and taking around 120 mg a day. been here now for 4 days. Can I continue tapering? Do you have a plan I could use. My son said it did not matter how much I tapered, stopping will be the same. Is there a way to completely stop? I am getting a new doctor (Mine is leaving) but have not got one and not sure if I can find one that will treat the pain I will have when I come off this. I just know, I have got to keep going and stop this stuff. Please help!

You have two choices that I think are both good. I always recommend first if you can do it then you should taper down with fast acting opiates (codones no contins) then cold turkey using the Thomas Recipe to lessen your w/d symptoms. I'll put a link at the end of the reply.

THe other option is using subutex/suboxone. THe question is do you want to be sick as hell for a time, but then be done or do you want to use subs for 6-8 weeks without all the bad w/d symptoms. I'll post a link to the way I base my suboxone suggestions as well.

It's usually best to get it over with if you can. If for whatever reason you're unable though to do a cold turkey (5-8 days of being ill) there is nothing to be ashamed of using subs. It's just very important to use them short term and at the lowest effective dose. We have lots of success both ways.

Let me know if I can help you either way. You came to the right place. God bless.

Arrow Oxy Taper...

The way I am feeling now....comming down from 240 to 120, will the withdrawal get worse as I get to smaller doses? Now when it gets time for my "quarters" (When I begin hurting and sweating) It helps. It also seems I am beginning to wait a little longer between 1/4s. I guess my question is can I keep tapering slowly and eventally quit without the serious withdrawals. I am so chicken and mad I have allowed myself to get dependant on these, I am very spiritual, so prayer is helping!

Cool no shame brokenwing

brokenwing, dont be ashamed of getting addicted. specially as you started them because of pain. it has nothing to do with you wanting to be addicted pal, so dont be so hard on yourself. the damn things creep up on us when we are not looking. for sure.
you have landed in the right place alright, there are a lot of people who know more about the pills you are on, but i know about the addicted part, and good on you for wanting out. even on your own you had the right idea, wean yourself down.
robert knows what he is talking bout, hes awesome. bin there done that type of guy, and lots of others, so its good sometimes just get support and ask questions here.
good luck whichever way you go,
i am personally on the sub route, and for me its what i needed, and i have gone from 12mg to 4mg, in 6 weeks. and i havent felt the drops. so far so good. so as far as i am concerned they are great. and the fog disappears, you have no "hangs", and there is less sedation and euphoria. mind you i was on methadone, but im assuming all of the opiates do roughly the same, either slower or faster and opiate is and opiate is an opiate. addictive as hell.
shyte bit of a rave on there brokenwing, whoops, hey tho, thats just me, some of the others are used to me raving on by now. ach well.
anyway plenty of support to you pal
good on ya

Thanks so much for your support. Even though I feel I have lived most of my adult life on some sort of narcotic, Not until a few years ago after giving my life to God did I reaslize I had a problem. I convinced myself I could take a bottle a day of oxys....as long as doc prescribed them . Then suddenly I got ashamed, plus realized I was living in a fog and looked 10 years older than I am. I am developing yellow in my eyes. The oxys not only stopped my physical pain, but they stopped my mental pain and i had alot of that. I am determined now to get my life back, but where I live is tiny and busy noses. I have done a great job hiding the fact I take anything so I feel me and God are in this battle alone. As I read this website I am overwhelmed at the people who are having the same thoughts as me and when this is over,,,,,,I think I have found what God wants me to do, Bless you Robert, and folks who are monitoring this site. May God bless each of you. I have a lasy appointment with my Doc Wed. Does these Subs cost alot? How much do I need to finish my taper????

Last edited by brokenwingangel; 08-21-2009 at 09:08 PM. Reason: Also....do I have to go tyo a doctor for subs and betreated? Can I just get a script and so at home?

Cool

i dont know how much they cost over there mate. im in nz. but for me they were way cheaper than a M'done habit. off the street.
you may find you dont need that many, robert would probably get you started on a really low dose and you can get off relatively quickly.
all i know is be wary of doctors giving you too much. mine started me on 12 and was gonna head up the way next day. thank god i found this site. i say thank god, but not really as i havent found god, sometimes i think it would be good if i did, coz a lot of people do well on it. but i just never have. im a nature freak and i guess for me the power of nature is god. anyway, im the night owl coz im in a different time zone, so all i can say mate is check here in the morning, and some others will put you right as to how much the subs will cost you and where.
i have read there is a site you put in your zip code and find sub docs in your area, and how far you will go to get them. im not sure.
anyway, good on you, and on this site you are never alone, thats the good part.
catchyou later angel.
kiwi

and as far as i know, in the states, they let you get a script and go it alone.

Dear Broken:

I was reading this post and noticed that you said that your eyes were getting yellow. If the WHITES of your eyes are turning yellow, you need to seek medical attention immediately as this COULD be a sign of liver disease/failure. I don't want to scare you too much but don't want you to ignore it either.

Congratulations on your decision to do something about the opiates! You definitely came to the right place. You will get a lot of GOOD advice here and even more support.

Best Wishes,

mags

broken:
Whatever path you choose to get clean, know that you are in my prayers.

Opiate addiction is tough. You and I share this struggle. If there is anything I can do to help you (and yes, help myself) please give me a "shout".

We are all in this together.
