GI Problems My 14 year old daughter was admitted to the hospital for vomiting and severe abdominal pain. She is being followed by a team of GI specialist but they have no real answers. They have ran tons of tests and they have ruled out any life threatening illness (which is great) but still have no answers on her pain and vomiting.
She was in the hospital for 10 days with severe dehydration and the stomach pain and vomiting and they sent her home. But we returned in 5 days and have been here for two weeks now. She has not been able to keep any food down for a month and is on IV and feeding tube while they pump one drug after another into her.
Has anyone else had any experience with anything like this and if so what did they find. Any help is appreciated....

Stressed to the MAX have they checked her for any blockage? Has she been looked at by gyno? -
Has she been travelling or gone on a vacation lately?
Could it be something in the water supply? They don't always test for all the parasites/microbes that can cause these GI problems.
They tell medical students "If you hear hoof steps, don't look for zebras." (In other words, don't look for strange stuff first. But sometimes a patient needs a more thorough work up.
Good luck. -
GI Problems This is my first time is using this sit so I hope this works, answering two questions at once................Thanks for the thoughts....
They have checked for a blockage but they have not done anything with gyno Good thought. Sure worth a try, although she won't be happy.
We have not been on vacation anywhere but they have done multiple test with urine and poop. They never said what they were looking for but I assume it was parasites.
Again thanks for your thoughts and ideas. -
I went through this with my oldest when she was 13. It was just after she started her period regularly, and it was bad.. She was terribly ill.
We had scan after scan and a colonoscopy, goodness knows what all. They couldnt find a thing.
After a week in hospital they released her. We were back about two weeks later, same problems. This time, I finally thought to ask for a gyno to look at her.
It took two days for them to agree to go that route, but guess what? It was a cyst on her ovary, very rare for a kid her age. They gave her meds and put her on Tri-spintec, and she's been fine since.
Definatly ask for a gyno, and PUSH for a through exam. They dont like to do them at that age, but if they hadnt who knows what would have happened?
My baby is 17 now, and doing great. Good luck and God bless. -
GI Problems I will the Dr wants to talk to both my husband and I hear in the next hour. I will make them do it. We have been here two and half weeks this time. How did they find it? -
GI Problems Gyno was called in but will not do anything. Nothing they see is related. They will not do a full exam as it is not necessary in this situation.
Thanks for the thoughts
