    Default Getting of the Xanax....yikes!

    Hi all!

Thanks to all those who responded about getting off the Xanax. I won't lie...I was a mess. The detox was something else. It was a different hell than the narcotics. The auditory hallucinations were enough to drive me up a wall. I read some websites about what to expect, and they said very few people could get through it without medical help. I got down on my knees constantly and prayed that God would do for me what I couldn't do for myself. After nine days (only missing one day of work), I started to feel a little bit okay. My head was buzzing, my ears were ringing, and I felt insane.

Just when I was ready to go to ER, I would hold out and pray some more. I felt like I was being mentally tortured. My husband and kids were very supportive and left me alone. Every voice I heard was just one more voice in my head. After day 10, I got through the whole day without the detox symptoms. I kept going to meetings and just remained very quiet. I was able to get down to a half a milligram per day. Then one night, I got home from a meeting and fell asleep without my Xanax. I woke up so excited! I tried it the next night and the night after, and here I am 11 days later, and I haven't taken Xanax at all! I have a whole script of the Xanax bars, and I haven't touched ONE! I am so grateful...I can't even describe it. I have been on benzos for way too long...Ativan, Klonipin, Valium, and finally Xanax. My doctor had me on a maintenance dose of 8 mil. per day. I also have four months off the narcotics! The only thing I take now is Cymbalta.

It CAN be done. I don't recommend doing it the way I did, but it just goes to show you with God, all things are possible. I give Him all the glory because He knows I could not have done it alone!

Congratulations Joanie. I'm so happy for you. You remember my feelings about benzos I know. Opiate detox is nothing compared to a serious benzo addiction. I took them over 25 years and remember the detox all too well. You're right .. ALL things are possible with Jesus Christ. He saved my life too. Remember that you never have to use again. God bless.
I am not a dr. My statements are based on years of experience and related education. Consult with the professional of your choice regarding matters of concern.
