Getting off Methadone Hello everyone
robert knows me. I was winging myself off methadone from 10 mg a day. I got to 3 mg a day and basically chickened out. I used a flare up of my RA to be an excuse (pain ) I have chronic neck and back pain, on disability. The methadone is making me very constipated and i cant find a happy medium, runs or clogged up. I didnt have this problem on the other opiates. I was on percaset and vicodine for 7 years starting at 2 pills a day and ending at 10 percs a day before the va put me on methadone
I can get into more detail later if i need to. I get really low energy with my RA ( rhuematoid arthritis ), so i need to lay down for awhile now...
To the point....Can i detox of methadone like you guys do with suboxine?
talk again when i get up...i have other ??????
You guys are great....God Bless

You can do it. I was on methadone for 8 years. I went from 150mgs to 30mgs and stopped. I waited 2 days, and began taking subutex 16mgs per day for a week. The first few days were rough but tolerable. After that week was done, I switched to suboxone and was good to go. It's rough but doable. Good luck! And even tho it doesn't show, the scars aren't so old... (J.T.) -
Hoooaaaahhhhhh you can do it! I went from Dilaudid/fentynal/and percs to suboxone and it was very controllable. Meth just has a super long half life and the WDs last for a long time. BUT...the subs should block almost total WDs! That was my experiance anyway. 16mg a day(8 mg x2) will saturate your opiate receptors like nothing. Has a ceiling effect though so dont even think about it for pain once your that high on the subs for WDs from the meth. You will prob need lots of other NON NARCOTIC pain meds to deal with that issue. Best of luck. Hoooah! you can do it. of and miralax is a wonder drug for constapation-subs block you up too! so go get some! -

Hi Daniel,
Haven't seen you in a while. Sorry the RA is acting up. You know that I also have RA and I understand. We have talked about this in the past.
To answer your question yes a methadone patient can titrate down to a maximum of 30mg and then switch to suboxone. Morpiator just described one way to do it however taking 16mg a day is too high of a dose. I don't approve of 16mg doses of either subutex or suboxone. (Sorry Morpiator I know you have people's best interest at heart but I have to share what really works.) You can see from the thread you just posted on that it doesn't take anywhere near 16mg to do this. You just watched me do an induction where the person being inducted was done successfully at 6mg.
I am not saying that 6mg would absolutely work for you. This needs to be done on a case basis as everyone is different. I have had people inducted from a low end of 4mg up to 12mg. Then after three days the stabilizing dose is reduced by approximately 25%. I have never had to start anyone at more then 12mg and after they reduce following three days I would take that 12mg down to 8-10mg depending on the circumstances. There is NO set amount of subs that everyone automatically takes to do this.
I now take Ibuprofen, prednisone or methotrexate for my RA. NO narcotic pain medications whatsoever. Let me know if I can help. God bless. -
Decisions, where is my chrystal ball? Hey gang
Thank you for the support and ideas. I cant take any steroids whatsoever, wigged out on several ocasions. I get side effects from many meds. I was on Enbrel and that wigged me out...insomnia, dillusions, flu like conditions. I have severe allergies, that may be one reason. I will start a antibiotic regiment for my ra within the week i presume.
Does anyone know if the va gives out suboxen? i have no insurance. how much does suboxen cost?
the saga continues

Subutex/suboxone cost approximately $8 - $8.50 per pill at the pharmacy. That is the average at least. You can usually cut them into pieces though and make them last if you buy the 8mg pills. Always get the 8mg pills if you are paying out of pocket. The drug company charges almost the same for 2mg pills as they do the 8mg. Might be a little difference but not 4 times for sure. Drs charges are all over the board. Just depends on the doctor.
Can't tell you about what the VA will do or won't do. I quit trying to second guess them a long time ago. You just can't ever tell with the VA. Good luck with the RA treatment Daniel. God bless. -

You can use methadone for detox. It's been done for a long time. It's just a WHOLE lot tougher getting off the methadone than suboxone. Methadone is intended more for people shooting heroin, or whatever. Methadone should be a last choice medication. It's also used more for pain control for chronic pain issues that will never go away for life. Methadone patients normally stay on their medication a long time if not for life. Suboxone is used more detoxing from RX pills. I have seen people cross over from both places though to the other. They are both opiate replacement therapies. Hope that helps.
