Fentanyl patches

Hi all ,I am looking for some information about how to get off of the Fentanyl 50MCG patches ? I have been on them for almost 2 yrs ,I was on 75's and they were to strong so I went down to 50,s . I know when the patch runs out it gets pretty bad .I am going to the Dr,s and get the 25mcg,s will I get any withdraw from that ?

You should never go off meds, especially narcotics, without first talking to your doctor and they will give you instructions on how to go about weaning off the patch. It has to be done lowering the dose slowly over several months.

I was on the Fentanyl patch last year and when I didn't need it anymore my doctor gave me instructions. You shouldn't go from a 75 to a 25, but 50 first. I followed his instructions and came of it pretty easily. For two weeks I lost my appetite, I wasn't throwing up or anything, but the throught of food just didn't appeal to me. The only other thing that happened was I experienced some terrible racing thoughts one day and he prescribed Risperdal. I pill and 20 mins later it stopped. I had it happen on two other days and that was it.

You may not have any of that, or other things, everyone is different. Just make sure you are under your doctors care and call them if you have any problems, there are usually ways to deal with them.

P.S.

When I was on my last patch, I just left it on for a few weeks which was another way of getting less a dose everyday until it was gone.

Thanks for your help ,I have left the patch on for a few extra days and I have went as many as 5 day with 1 patch and I do know when it stops working and that is no good .I got the 25's today I have been on the 50's .You know the bad thing is the patch does work for the pain .Thanks again for you input
