    Unhappy Feeling kinda stuck here.....

For those who don't know my story, I've been clean 36 days now from a ten year lortab habit that at my worst had me eating 30 10mg blue beasties a day. Been doing great, cravings minimal. However, (of course) I was in a car accident this afternoon. Got hit from behind at a red light -- guy behind me was too busy screaming at the truck next to him that had almost sideswiped HIM, that he hit me Kids were in the car, but thank God, no major injuries and no damage at all to either car. Took all of us in to urgent care as the kids were complaining of neck pain, back pain, oldest dd's right hip, younger dd's head hit the door, ds's legs were hurting, etc. Four hours later we were done being x-rayed and examined, all of us bruised and sore but overall okay.

Here's my dilemma. I have fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, and I am already feeling the accident. My back is so tight and my jaw is clamped shut, very painful. The doc (through a medical assistant) gave me scrips for flexeril (30 10mg), tramadol (20 50mg) and vicodin (20 5/500mg). I did not request pain medication and had planned to discuss with her my addiction issues; however, she had gone on to the next patient and it was already 8 pm (the urgent care technically closed at 6:30pm). So I took the scrip and had it filled -- insurance doesn't cover the trams. How do I handle my pain for the next few days? I did take a vic and a flexeril tonight, due to my severe pain, and I know the next 2 days are going to be rough. Do I tough it out? Do I risk taking these stupid vics? I could use some help here.

    Thanks,

    Kara

Kara .... sorry about your accident. I'm glad no one was hurt. I don't know what to say here for sure. I wouldn't take any pain meds if I didn't ABSOLUTELY have to. You've done such a terrific job with your recovery. But if I found it necessary I wouldn't beat myself up, you were in an accident. Just DON'T do it if you don't totally have to. If you take any don't take more than one. And you hopefully won't need them after a day or so if that long. Don't know what else to tell you. Be strong and I'll pray for you. God bless.

Thanks, Robert! I appreciate any and all prayers . I took one last night and I felt so horrible, woozy and disconnected. I hated it! I took one flexeril this morning with my motrin 800 and so far the pain is manageable. This is so weird for me, though. I guess since I started out taking the lortab for pain control that I never really noticed the high. Also, when I would run out before, when I would get more and take a couple, I would get an energy boost. Not this time! I feel kinda hungover today and will not take any more vics unless I am in unbearable pain. I can't believe I used to pop these like skittles! What a huge difference a month (and sobriety) makes! I have 19 vics in the bottle and no desire to take one.... WOW!!!!

That is really good news! You're handling this responsibly.

There is no way I could tell you to NOT take anything after a car wreck, but you obviously got my point.

When you take one vic it really does help with the pain. We don't need a handful.

After today with what you say about the pain I wouldn't take any more vics. The ibuprofen should work fine. Use the flexeril, a muscle relaxer is far better for this than opiate pain pills. God bless.
