Default Esophageal Spasms and Valium vs. Xanax

I have esopgageal spasms (badly at times) and was prescibed years ago to take 10 mg Valium for the muscle spasms and this worked well. But now, a new doctor will only prescibe .50 Xanax which no longer seems to work. He will not prescibe Valium because of it's time in your body. At this point, time in my body doesn't matter. I just want something that works. Has anyone had experience with such spasms and which drug worked the best for you and why? I'd like to go back to the Valium but will probably have to change doctors which I don't really want to do.

xanax is very short acting and one of the most powerful so the .5 not working just means a dosage increase is needed but valium lasts so long in the body as do its effects which last vertualy all day. for spasms i would say valium would be better over all... tell the doc that the xanax isnt working and they have to do something about it weither its a dosage increase or another benzo

Thanks. I see my gastro doctor today and will try to get him to switch me to Valium, but again, he's indicated he won't prescibe it. If not, I'll try for the higher doage of Xanax and see if that will work for me. Wish me luck.
