Default Effect on Intestine from Prolonged Oxycontin usage

I know of a 36 yr old female (friend) who has taken prescribed oxycontin for years, attributing herniated disc(s). She has progressively declined in overall body strength in the past year and now has peripheral neuropathy in all 4 extremities. CT and MRI are negative as well as for diabetes. Intestinal tract is anatomically reversed (left to right, right to left). I am curious if her prolonged usage of oxycontin could have an effect on her intestinal tract, thus somehow creating a malabsorption for B-12? Or.. am I way off base? Please provide your input.

Thx,
D.
