Drug Consult i have chronic pain in must parts of my body that doctors say surgery would not benifit me. so when i ask my doctor for stronger pain med she has planned a drug consult for me, this scares me into thinking they will stop my meds. Hejp...Boo58 -
Dear Boo:
I have to say I am not sure what a "drug consult" is either. The only thing I can think of is that she is going to have to talk to a pain management doctor. If that is the case, I wouldn't worry about it. Basically they will take your history and go over your records, any CT scans or MRI's that you might have had, try to determine the cause of your pain and ultimately come up with a plan to give you better pain control. Now, this is how it is supposed to be done.....but beware, there are pain management places that want to put people on methadone or doses of long-acting opiates that are too high, be cautious of this because you certainly don't want to end up like some of us who participate in this forum wishing they had never taken this route. Opiate addiction is not a fun road to travel. There may come a time when your pain improves; getting off of long-term opiate use is horrendous.
