Exclamation Dr. Phil on Right now About Presciption Drug Abuse

I am watching Dr. Phil and there's a guy who's addicted hard core to Oxy's, and there's much more interesting stuff to come, just amazing how there is more prescription abuse than heroin, extasy, cocaine, and inhalents. Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Default SHAME on YOU, Dr. Phil!

Hi No More,

I have a hard time listening to Dr. Phil when he is speaking on the topic of addiction or alcoholism, although I think he is quite knowledgeable on many topics. In that show you are speaking of, he told the addict on his stage that he was a "parasite" and a "liar" - that infuriates me. For all Dr. Phil says addiction is a disease, the labels and disdain he shows those who have this disease reveal his ignorance.

Dr. Phil was raised by an actively alcoholic father, and I believe that has scarred him tremendously, as he has spoken of it frequently. That childhood trauma seems to interfere with his true understanding of the complexities of this disease. He can't help but sound condescending when he speaks to the person who is suffering.

This year, he has gotten better about this - in the past, it was far, far worse. I recall him raising his voice to some, shouting, "You know how I know you're lying? Your lips are moving!!!"

As further evidence of his ignorance, he is often appalled to find out that the addict or alcoholic USED that day they were on his show - huh? He knows they can't stop - yet he has to bring it up and condemn them for it, when they are there to ADMIT they do not have control. How ridiculous. If they COULD go without the drug, they wouldn't be there in the first place!!!

If Dr. Phil truly believed it is a disease, as he proclaims it is, why would he insist on SHAMING the addict/alcoholic as he does??? That just turns my stomach. He's an educated professional, and should know better.

Just my humble opinion...
Ruth

I used to watch shows regarding addiction to try and understand it. Dr. Phil had a girl who was using heroin and shamed her because she used that morning. Of course she did! Who would want to be on tv in w/d? I cannot stomache him or Opra anymore. They are so rich the money has blinded them to reality.

the episode he had with the suboxone doctors was further proof they really don't know what they are talking about, and have very limited knowledge of the drug and how it works. they basically talked about how you need to be on it for a long time, at least a year or so, and it 'fixes' your brain. sad that the info. is all over the world, and people think it is the truth. patients and families believe everything these doctors tell them.
i concur with ruth.
