Default Down to. .25 mg of Sub--will withdrawals get worse?

To all former Sub users:

I just prematurely ended an FDA study that used Sub to get people off of opioids (in my case .25 mg of methadone for 10 months, prior to that 3 years of Vicodin for chronic pain.) The reason I had to end the study before I was officially finished was because I had to move out of the area for financial reasons.

Anyway, I am now temporarily back living at my father's house. My concern now is I am down to a mere .25 mg of Sub p/day--have been at that dose for about 4 days and, as I said, have been going through much more noticeable withdrawal about as long. For three days I was nauseous (hate that more than anything) which colors your world and makes you feel sick about everything you look at. Fortunately, that passed but was replaced by my current and extreme cold symptoms--very, very strange. I could swear that it is a real cold but apparently it's not--just another symptom of Sub withdrawal. The sneezing is the worst--very violent. Could win The National Truck Driver's Sneeze Contest for sure.

Also disturbing is the weird, very unpleasant dreams that I can only conclude are also a result of the withdrawal.

So, this morning I took my last .25 mg. Sub dose. I have an appointment tomorrow with a doctor up here who is licensed to prescribe Sub. My question to anyone out there who has gone through Sub withdrawal--particularly those of you who were on it for a SHORT time, is this: Should I spend a large amount of $$$$ (I have no health insurance) for an initial visit with this doc when all he will end up doing is prescribing enough Sub for me to finish this detox?

Some people suggest that Sub users taper even more slowly to stave off severe withdrawals--in my case I guess that would translate into .25 every other day, then .25 every two days, then .25 every 3 days and so on and so forth.

But can't I just take the plunge and stop right now I mean, again, I've only been on Sub for 40 days (starting with 8 mg and tapering down from there)--how bad can withdrawals be for me if I have been on .25 for 4 days now. Seems like I am already experiencing the worst of the sub withdrawals. But, maybe not.

Any and all input relevant to my situation would be appreciated. I really don't want to spend the $$$ for this doc when I am not currently bringing in any money. I'm ready to tough it out if need be just to save the $$$$ and to speed this process up so I can get on with my life!

Default Just a quick response.....

I had jumped off at half mg every OTHER day. The w/d's didn't start for about 4-5 days but they were NOT pleasant.

I weaned very slowly after that. Is it possible that you can call the clinic and have a script forwarded to you? Suboxone can be called in over the phone. I would try to get one more script and wean much more slowly. Like perhaps .25 mg every other day and down from there.

Godspeed.

Default An equally quick response to your response....

Thanks, Janice. Actually that is what I'll be doing though I had to go to an private doctor to get the script as the FDA trial study is now allowed to prescribe or give out any medication other than what is within the study parameters. But, I did get relief finally and now know not to taper so fast!
(Though a lot of these FDA trials have people jumping off at 2 mg and doing fairly well--don't ask me how!) -piper
