A Doctor

What is the chance if any that I could get a doctor to prescribe me Methadone??
I was in a mmt clinical treatment program for oxycodone use. I chose MMT to curb the withdrawls and manage the pain because I no longer had health insurance to cover my doctors visits and prescription charges.
Now ive lost my job I have been through two weeks of the worst withdrawls ever 120mgs cold turkey,and to top it off ive developed gastritus, not to mention the original pain in my heel and lower back is setting in again.
I now have medicaid but my old doctor dosent take that and wouldnt perscribe Methadone anyways. I dont feel like myself at all, I feel as though i need the Methadone if im ever going to be able to cope and deal with the pain thats coming back fast.
Any help or advice that can be givin here would be great. What should I tell the Doctor? What should I not say? What are the chances of succesfully finding a doc that would look past substance abuse long enough tp realize that I need this medication?

hey d - I was in your EXACT position - it depends on what state you are in - Im in ny state and it is near impossible to get a doc to write a script for it unless you have been in maintenance program for awhile - you might want to go with suboxone...

are you sure your primary doctor wont help you...maybe I have just had really good doctors but if I went to then and ask them for help...they always did there best to help me...you were on a high dose, you must be having a hard time..
I just cant imagine a doctor not helping you...

Sorry about the user name when I set it up I couldnt remember my other info. This is diggnrichmond.

Ok today will make day 15 with no methadone. OMG going cold turkey off of 120mgs is liking signing a death wish. NOBODY ever do that unless you have no other choice!!! Keep in mind also, the first week I took oxycontin 80mgs and still it was if I didnt take anything at all. Nothing worked I just simply had to suffer.
This is the the hardest and worst sickness I have ever experienced. Day number 3 started with the vomiting and didnt let up for 8 days. Now i have gastritus (inflamation of the stomach lining). I went to the hostpital a total of three times in the last 15 days to try and stop the vomiting. They would iv me give me nausea medicine but wouldnt send me home with any meds, telling me to go to the clinic to get that. Ha the clinic dosent prescribe nausea meds and basically without the 13 dollars for the dose of Methadone they wouldnt do anything not even talk to me hardly. They told me to treat this like I had a bad case of the stomach flu. The told me that the detox would last up to 30 days but I should stop vomiting after a couple days or so. They were wrong in about everyway regarding the duration and severity of the withdrawls and symptoms. I know the clinics help people and im not saying that it cant help. But they should help out with a taper or something when someone has no money or any way to get money.
Any way I have been able to get my hands on some oxycontin from an old dealer free of charge trying to help me through this stuff. Like I said earlier the first 7 days I didnt bother to try and take any but once and when i realized it wouldnt work i stopped not wanting to waste my free taper. Ive been taking anywhere from 40 to 80 daily for three days now and it is helping drastically with the shakes and the pain from the gastritis. It is also helping in allowing me to get sleep.Even though I know that i will withdraw from that, I had to stop the puking and feeling as though I was being stabbed in the stomach.
Sorry this post is so long but I wanted to update my condition and get some advice from maybe this point to see if anybody has any ideas on how i might be able to make this easier from here on out.

dlower ...... Do you want to stay on methadone or do you want to be clean. Stopping methadone abruptly at 120mg is not only difficult, it's very dangerous for you medically. I'm NOT being overly dramatic here, I am very serious!

If you have no job, no income or no insurance there are in-patient facilities that will take you and get you through this. It's the law I assure you. I will help you find a hospital if you tell me where you are and can't do it yourself. I know you are in a living hell right now! You may be so upset that you are unable to help yourself. I would call 911 before I allowed this to go on much longer. Only thing is you'll have medical bills if you do that.

All you have to do is get a printout from where you go to file for unemployment benefits showing you have no income and how long you have been unemployed. A facility / rehabilitation hospital may ask for a bank balance proving you have no money. Then find out which rehab hospitals accept patients who are without any other options. All cities have them.

I'm serious, you're placing yourself in medical danger doing this cold from 120mg. I'm surprised you haven't ended up in a psych ward yet. Hope this helps, but there are facilities out there for people in your position. Let me know if I can help you if you can't do this on your own.. God bless.
