Default Do I really need lexapro

I was taking lexapro for about seven months when I decided
to stop two weeks ago. My dosage was ten milligrams and I
stopped cold turkey (bad idea). My withdrawal symptoms improved
within one week but I've just recently started to feel very
aggitated and mopey. I would like suggestions as to wheter
I might still be going through withdrawal or I need to start
taking the lexapro again. Everybody's opinion is welcome.
Thanks

i have never been on Lexapro, but have 3-4 close friends, male, female, 21-38 yrs. old. I am not a fan on SSRI's, ANY, of them, i've had Paxil, paxil cr,wellbutrin, prozac Prozac XR, zoloft, buspar, and my worst enemy of them all. Effexor XR. Two weeks into the med, i was is different person,had a seizure @my work. no major changes prior to the anti-depressant drugs, and i was happier than i am now,I was normal. But, the people I know take there Lex. daily 10-20mg. They have no complaints, sorry to ramble,with any Selective Seretonin Reuptake Inhibitors, there are consequenses that accompany,so there are mood swings,personaltiy changes,sleeplisness,abnormal sexual issues, etc. look up Lexapro manufacture, find some info, read others who had success, and benefited, and read some of the court cases against 60% of anti-depress. I prefer benzodiazapines, diezepam,alprazolam, klonopin, b/c they act quick, get the job done, and effects wear off within 4-6 hrs. Good luck

hi froggygirl!
I'm in the same situation as you. I was on the same dosage as you but for only 5 months. I hated taking it, I was tired all the time, among other side-effects. So I went cold turkey just over 2 weeks ago and it took me 8 days to realise I was having withdrawal symptoms - palpitations, "electric shock" sensations in my hands and feet, continuous sharp headache, dizziness, you name it. You know, I don't need to tell you!!! Now it's around day 17 and I still feel weird but it's getting better.
only you can decide really whether you need it or not, but maybe you should ask your doctor to prescribe something else and see if that suits you better?
best of luck

well I have been on lexapro for about ten months 20 mgs and never came off . But I do plan to one day . I talked to my Dr. about it and he told me that I would probelly need it for the rest of my life. But he did warn me about weening off my remeron . He said to gradually come off . He said never quit cold turkey because of the chemicals in your head need time to get used to the change.

Hey Froggygrl
I'm working with my doctor to wean myself slowly off of Lexapro. I have been on it for about 2 years. I started with 10 mgs and went up to 20 mgs. It has been 2 weeks since the doctor had me lower my dosage to 10 mgs. She wants me to do 10 mgs for 2 months and then go down to 5 mgs. It's been 2 weeks and no withdrawl symptoms (knock on wood!) I think as long as you take it slowly, you should be fine. I had tried cold turkey back in April/2004 and it was bad. Take it slow!

Monika =)
