Detoxing with suboxone Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and I've never posted before but I've read hours and hours of forums discussing suboxone therapy. I'm really hoping to reach Robert_325 to help me through this.
Well.... I'm a 20 year old male in WA struggling to get clean. I have always had a history with drug use, painkillers being my DOC, though I didn't use much in the past. My friends and I would get some vicodin or percocet on the weekend and have a good time and all was well.
Recently, thanksgiving '09 to be exact, I received a large sum of money, about $30,000. With this money I realized I could get my favorite drugs everday! So I did. I started buying an 80 mg oxy and only doing half, then doing the whole, then doing 2, then doing 3, then 4, and reached 5 a day. I was in this habit for about 3 months and spent nearly all my money. I realized what a mess my life is in and decided its time to stop.
I last used oxy 3 days ago and have been on 6mg of suboxone since. I followed Roberts plan for induction and it went very well, I now feel very well especially compared to the withdrawals I've experienced.
But heres the issue...
I only have 6 8mg subs bought from dealer and I only want to detox. I see how well Roberts guide has worked for people but I really dont want to be on this for 6-8 weeks.
My question:
Can I use the suboxone strictly for detox and not maintenance? And be off in a week or so?
(I know that detox centers around here do a 5 day detox with suboxone) how do I? -
Hi TI! Welcome to the forum. I don't know the answer to your question. But someone will chime in soon to help you. I do have one question. Could you possibly go to a doctor and get more subs to do a proper taper? -
Hi TI,
I am a 26 yr old female trying to do the same sort of thing, so any info you have/receive would be greatly appreciated. I took less than 2 mg yesterday morning, another small piece this morning and then again this evening. I am feeling pretty good right now. I want to know the best and quickest way to do this efficiently. I am just ready for this to be all over with!
Good luck, and let me know how it goes!! -
there are a few trains of thought re subs.
go to the front page of the forum, featured drugs, and their are two threads at the top. describing how to do the 4 day, 25% taper plan.
this seems to work for most people,
remembering tho, that gettin clean is one part, doin the work to stay clean is another. that be why im still on sub, over 6 months. (long history, iv, methadone etc blah blah),
anyway, good on ya for bein on a low dose, that is the first hurdle over with.
TI i would ask around if youve heard of 5 day detox. id be wary as hell. but thats me.
obviously the shorter time you can be on subs the better, but people come here with 5 years of sub, and still manage to taper.
you need the right amount, so maybe go to a sub doctor.
or a clinic.
apparently you can search for a sub doc in your area. im a "foreigner" but we got subs here. and i think they are a good tool for gettin your life in order.
good luck.

thanks Thank you to everyone for responding so quickly. I love the support people provide on these forums.
To answer doc.rose, thank you for your concern and I am aware it would be more responsible to see a doctor for my sub treatment. however I am one of the many Americans without health insurance. The suboxone clinics around here are very expensive and I'm not willing to lose anymore money to drugs (even though its helpful, suboxone is still a drug). I believe that I do have enough subs for my personal goals but I'm looking for advice from anyone who has done short term detox w suboxone. I want to find the shortest plan possible to being completely clean.
ndone, I will be sure to let you know if I find a good short term plan and I hope you will do the same for me
cheekysod, thanks for your advice and I wanna let people know that I am committed to staying clean. I've applied for treatment through the state and my first appt is march 5 (2 weeks away). I AM currently on the 4 day, 25% taper plan and its making detox much more pleasant than c/t. however, I dont want to be addicted to suboxone when I reach treatment. I find it somewhat pointless to get addicted to another drug while I'm trying so damn hard to kick this one
Another detail,
My girlfriend is 7 months pregnant with our first child. Our baby is due in April and I'm so scared of my addiction destroying my chances as a father. I dont want to be like my father (a heroin addict of 20 years) and I NEED to be clean when that baby comes. I refuse to let this addiction control my life and I want to be off of EVERYTHING as soon as possible!
Robert, I could really use your advice.
Anyone who can help me out, please do! It will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for listening. -

Congrats on the success you've had. I mean that sincerely.
I'm also in WA, not that it matters. But doing subs for less than a week and moving on is leaving you in a prime position for a relapse. You won't even be completely past the original detox from the painkillers yet when you stop the subs. You're asking for a miracle
You can stop cold turkey. You don't have to use subs. You could pick up on the Thomas Recipe now, but you need to be making NA, AA, Celebrate Recovery or some kind of recovery meetings every single day, even if church works for you that is fine. But the odds are stacked against you big time for relapse unless you get involved in recovery with only a few days of subs and thinking you can just move on down the road. Trust me the rehabs that do a five day detox will be pushing intensive outpatient rehab programs including 12 step recovery meetings. I couldn't be anymore serious about this.
I wish you luck but if you can't get more subs then it's the Thomas Recipe. Not being a smart guy but it doesn't matter that you don't want a six week program. Do you realize how lucky you are just to be where you are and not in jail? Here is a link to the Thomas Recipe. Not saying you can't make it without it but you've got a big fight on your hands if you think you can walk away after a few days of using subs and stay clean without continuing your recovery program. It took me years to really get clean. I wish you the best with the Thomas Recipe to follow ..... http://www.drugs.com/forum/featured-...html#post68110 I am not a dr. Hey, I have a thread going, I think its called 2 days on Subs (or something like that). Someone named Steve responded and gave me a little advice. I am on day 3 now with the subs. Woke up at 7 and felt pretty decent. Started to feel a little bad around 10 and took less than 2 mg and feel fine now. I am going to try and taper as quickly as possible. Keeping my mind off it is proving to be impossible right now though. On my way out to a coffee shop to try and distract myself. Let me know how you are doing. Good luck!

I am not condoning nor criticizing what I'm about to say. I've been on sub for over a year and obviously developed a new dependency so this has nothing to do with me. It's just something I heard on TV. I was watching Dr. Drew Pinsky, the Celebrity Rehab Doc and he said he only perscribes sub for his patients for one week and no longer, just enough for them to get past the phsyical withdrawal from their DOC. As stated above, that would be your prime time to relapse. But Dr. Drew advocates heavy duty therapy, NA, groups, etc., etc., etc. for after that 7 days. If you take sub very short term and do nothing, you will relapse. You would need the meetings. So I suppose that is another way to do things if you want to go short term. I don't know if I trust a TV doctor but he is an addiction specialist so maybe he knows what he's talking about. -
