Detoxing off of Hydros and Percs!! Hello, new to forum (actually any internet type forum for that matter). I am a stay at home dad with a part time waiter job periodically. Have two toddlers and am tired of chasing the opiate high...it doesn't work for me anymore. I noticed my personality has changed recently. I used to be fun and optimistic, now I have no sense of wonder, no reason to improve my life or my family's. Not suicidal or anything. Just stuck in the ghetto in a small apartment with no true career...depressing man! I just wanted to post on here because my wife had done this in the past and it seemed to work for her. We are both back on the "easily accessible" meds and I wish to jump off first! Just thought I would share my story in the event anyone can relate. Had my last vicodin today at 9:00 a.m. Dec. 28th. I have been taking approx. 40mg of vicos per day with some percs thrown in here and there for fun...lame....Here we go kids. -
Thanks for sharing DT.... You have made a good choice, actually two. First deciding to hop off the rollercoaster of taking pills and two, posting. Keep us posted on how you are doing. We are rooting for you. I would suggest that you post as much as you can, it helps pass the time and know that it is worth it! let us know how we can help. Congrats on making the correct choice. You only have to go through this once. Google the thomas recipe. That helped me. Drink plenty of fluids, get some immodium and each day try to get some cardio in. Hot showers or baths are good too. You will have 5 days of feeling not so good, but it is worth it! All my best...........CA -

Your dose was not that high, so your withdrawals should not be completely unbearable. Still not going to be fun though. You are probably right by you jumping first, while your spouse continues to use. Since you have small children, I think it would be a bad idea for both of you to try to quit at the same time. Get detoxed and down the road a ways and then she can do it. Good luck. I'm currently going through the same thing off of much higher doses. -
Thanks a million! For some reason, feeling comforted is a strange emotion for me! Ususally I am the "comforter" to my kids! ha. Thanks for your reply...it means alot! For sure! I will keep updated! -
Yep! Thanks for the advice. I will be strong first then she can follow! Thank you so much for your reply. We are gonna kick it in the but!!! Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
DT, some kind of support group like NA or AA (for example) is highly recommended. The 1 year success rate is extremely low without help. There is ALWAYS hope -
Hey Dad !!!
I was just wondering how you were doing today and what was your wifes screen name when she posted on here, I was just wondering if I knew her...
let us know how your doing..

You can do it... Great choice man! I'll never forget taking pills all day and it not even resulting in a buzz. I thank god for that day, the love kinda ended. Now I got up to taking 20 Norco's a day so while I wanted to quit with a passion, but the physical withdrawal was unbelievably strong. So I made a fast taper plan coming down to 4 a day with in a week and then I used Suboxone to get off Norco's completely, I figured this was a bit of a shortcut but I was actually very concerned/depressed about all the acetaminophen I'd ingested, so I figured at least that would stop immediately. I'm happy to say today starts my 8th day with out a single Norco! Now I'm going to stop the subs in another day or two. There is a great guy on here named Robert_325 who said I'm moving too fast, so while I can't imagine developing a physical addiction to anything else, I do trust him, so I will take his advice. But that last day I took 20 pills was a dark day, and no matter the circumstances, today makes me feel so much better! I will look forward to your story and maybe we can help each other. -BTex -

Good choice Jent! we are with you all the way. Just take it one minute at a time if need be. I worked through my detox, so it can be done. Post and post often. I too went from oxy to Vicodins. Let us know how we can help. You should start your own thread so you can keep a Journal.... All my best ........CA -
Hi all! Doing ok today, thank you for ya'lls commitment to each other...it's amazing! I went about 18 hours and then decided to swallow a nice 15 mg oxy something I am doing ok though, not too disappointed as I am essentially tapering. Kids are driving me up the wall which makes me want to use bad! To all who are going through the same ordeal...may you also be strong!! I will keep updating and THANK YOU ALL for the replies!!!! -
Don't sweat it... Let me first say I'm right in the middle of beating this addiction so I'm not trying to offer advice but only try to offer support. I would take the fact that you only took that much as part of a successful taper. I can remember trying to build on the fact that I took 20 the day before and only 14 the next day, and it worked so far, I went down to only 4 a day before jumping to subs ( I know realize this was too fast and didn't make the challenge any easier) and then started down again with those. So was I successful on the day I went from 7 to 5, I believe so! Were you successful by taking less, i believe so! -
Hey Man! I was just hoping you were doing good! -BTex Tags for this Thread
