Question Can someone please give me some advice on lexapro?

Hi I am new on here and had reently posted a thread asking about different meds for anxiety and depression. Today my doc prescribed me lexapro 10mg daily for the anxiety and depression and kolnopin .5 mg 3 times daily as needed for anxiety and panic attacks. I have never taken either one of these drugs and was wondering of someone who has taken either one of them or both of them could give me some insight as to what to expect from them side effect wise. I am very nervous about trying new drugs. Please, any comments would be soo helpful!

HI=

I am leery of stating my personal experience because everyone has such differing side effects and I would hate to give advice either way, but I will tell you what I went through and you can make your own judgement.

I was recently given Cipralex, which I later found out is Lexapro (I am sure, but correct me if wrong).

I was on it for a week, but after some side effects and worrying about them and possible withdrawals later on (I have read alot from this forum), I decided I didnt need it bad enough. I may have given it a longer go if I wasnt so nervous about it.

Positive: My anxiety all but disappeared within one day. I felt calm and floaty and pretty good. I would doze off a bit in the afternoon which I loved because I have insomnia and I love the feeling of being able to feel tired.

Negative: I had weird heart rythms the first few days, almost beat skipping and not just fluttering, but almost like I was afraid my heart would stop. weird. I have had some palpitations in the past, so may be why. Worried about weight gain and withdrawal.

That is my experience, but there are tons of others on here who have good and bad reactions.

Good luck

I have been on lexapro for about 7 months, with the other post I'm not sure if that med Cipralex is actually Lexapro because I was told by my doc there was no generic. When I got prescribed Lexapro I was in a very depressive anxious state. I felt relief within the first 2 days. The only side affect I had was a little jitteryness, but that went away. I also have a script of Klonopin, I don't take it very often, but it makes you pretty sleepy, but pretty happy as well. Hopefully the doc told you to take it at night. I think that those 2 drugs are a good combination, I personally have had a great experience with Lexapro (although every person is different!), and Klonopin is one of the least addictive of the benzo's (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). Good luck, and keep posting, I'd like to see how the Lex works for you

hi and thanks for responding. I have not tried either med yet as my script for the lexapro needs a PA from the doc. Hopefully will get it in a day or 2. My husband started on lexapro today for depression. His neurologist gave him samples to try. He said it made him a little queasy but very calm and laid back. I don't know if lexapro comes in a generic or not but I don't think that it does if it needs a prior authorization from a doc. I have the kolonopin but have not used it yet.. I have tried valium and it worked great for me but I am afraid of the kolonopin. I saw a friend abuse it and it made her do crazy things. I plan on trying the kolonopin this weekend as my kids will be at my parents and I am afraid to try the new meds with them home incase of an adverse effect. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the support!

I took lexapro for almost 3 years and it did nothing, that I or anybody around me could tell. My friends grandmother just went to the hospital last week for a bad reaction to it, and im hearing and reading more and more stories all the time how people are having really bad side-effects to it. Everybody is different though, so good luck to you...wish you the best if your are taking it.

Bah, everybody is different.....

My experience:

Makes me tired, but I'm tired even off it.

Lexapro makes it hard for me to "keep it up". Hard to admit, but it's the truth. Zoloft has the opposite effect for me and makes it very hard to orgasm.

Other than that I think it's great. Weaning off it is a different story though.....

Go to :http://www.rxlist.com/script/main/sr...xapro&x=22&y=8 for the info you need on Lexapro. I know it's a long URL to type in but you can copy and paste it if you know how or just click on the purple URL I typed in.
Hope this helps.
