Default Can Pain Be Measured???

My husband says his doctor can measure his pain. Does anyone know if pain can actually be measured? He is an oxicontin abuser. I have told his physcian but because my husband will not allow me to come to his doctor visits and speak to the doctor, the doctor does not believe me. Any advice?

Pain is relative. I believe what is painful to one person is not to another. People have different pain thresholds. They have the little chart at the pain clinic that indicate if you feel this way then your pain level is that paticular level. But again this is relative to what that person considers painful and his or her threshold. There is not magic box from what I know that can indicate how much pain a person is experiencing. CT's and MRI's can indicate certain patterns in the brain when a painful stimulus is introduced, but it is not measureable. It is all relative! God Bless
