Default BUPENERPHINE OR METHADONE????

HI TO ALL, I SUFFERED A SEVER SPINAL SURGERY WHICH LED ME TO AN IMMENSE PAIN PILL ADDICTION (10-20 NORCOS A DAY!)FOR 3 YEARS, I WENT ON A METHADONE PROGRAM TO GET AWAY FROM THE PILLS AND NOW FIND MYSELF A SLAVE TO METHADONE WHICH REALLY WIPES ME OUR.. I'M AT 69 MG DOWN FROM 96 MG IN A 5 MONTH PERIOD, I FOUND A DOCTOR THAT OFFERS KICK MEDS FOR THE METHADONE AND TO SWITCH OVER TO BUPENERPHINE INSTEAD OF METHADONE... CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHAT I'M GETTING INTO? IS BUPENERPHINE HARDER TO KICK THAN METHADONE? WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS? HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL? THANX FOR ANY REPLIES
SINCERLY, BOULONMAN

If you want to get off the narcotics all together then buprenorphene is the way to go.You need to get down to 30 mgs of methadone and then take nothing for 2 days then you start on the bup.Let us know how make out.Good luck....Dave

thank you dave, i'm at 74 mg now and going down 5mg every 8-10 days so far it hasnt been horrible because i have the kick methadone packages (ativan-clonodine-pred...i forgot)i also have several hundred norcos which are tucked away and i dont have access to but i wonder if it would be easier to switch over to the pills when i hit the wall on methadone and go down on the pills until the doc says i am ready for bupenephrine..what do you think dave..anybody?

I have heard of people using milder narcotics for the final withdrawl and from what I've read it can be succsesful. You will probably be down to 30 mgs when they make the switch to bup so you should'nt be feeling bad yet anyway.I would play it by ear and see how it goes. It's your boby that's going through this.Good luck and keep us informed......Dave

dave, do you mean that bupenephrine will not ease the withdrawl from methadone? if so what if switched to norcos when i get down on the metahdone another 20 mgs.(46mgs)and wean myself off the norcos as far as i can stand it then go for the bupenephrine? by the way is suboxone another name for bupenephrine? if not could you tell me anything about it? finally dave is bupenephrine easier to kick then methadone? ultimately i would like to be drug free..
thanx for all the info guys, alan

bupenephrine also known as Suboxone is indeed the miracle drug of today- Together it works with Naxolone an opiate Antagonist. my husband was at 30 mg of methadone when they put him on Suboxone, they want you at the lowest dose of methadone possible so that you will have less withdrawl. The catch is, most rehabs put you on suboxone for only a week, then send you out to the street feeling like you just want to die- with methadone sometimes it takes 6 months to a year to get out of your system. Suboxone is safe and should be given for a longer period of time. My husband came out of rehab feeling ok, until a day or two later, in which he got severly depressed, we went to our family doctor and put him back on the suboxone, -within 3 hours after taking it, his body pain was gone and he was feeling Normal again mentally. Only 4 mg did the trick. Thank God for this. Keep this in mind, you Cannot take any opiate derivatives while taking suboxone. It blocks all opiate effects, thus blocking any Europhoria you may feel if taking (vicodin, oxycontin, heroin, etc... ) In this sense overdose would occur tryin to get the Europhia you simply wont get. It is like anabuse in a sense. Although the bupenephrine is an opiod in itself to help with the body pain, the Naxolone component blocks the effects of the "high". Hope this makes sense. Some have to be on Suboxone for months>to years>- with that I say "so be it" if that is what it takes to stay clean, along with Meetings for the psychological part. Take care -good luck

thanx for your postin amishgirl it answerd alot of my questions about subox, but i still dont know what is the maximum amount of methadone youre on to make the switch? doesnt subox releive some of the withdrawls of methadone? i'm @ 69 ml of methadone now and it is hell to cut down!!!!! i'm also thinking of using norcos to make cutting down on the meth easier..what happens if you get on the subox and you've cut down on the meth but still have norcos in your system? thankyou for replying i reall need to know my facts..i dont want to be a slave to methadone for the rest of my life and i see those torn up looking people at the clinic carrying their take homes in all kinds of weird looking boxes makes me want to scream and run out of there!!!!!you know what i mean? no offense folks i'm one of you too..

[/quote]Hi there- yes, I think you can safely make the SWITCH without feeling the withdrawls- the trick of the Switch is putting you on the proper dosage of Suboxone- when my husband was down to 40 mg of methadone- they dosed him higher on the suboxone in the rehab,>now he is only taking 4 mg of Suboxone once a day- and feeling great (along with the 150 mg. of Wellbutrin)
so, being that u are at 69 mg of methadone- your doctor will determine what mg dose of suboxone you will need to be on- ( and dont take methadone together with it!)>you will not need to. Suboxone is sufficient. You'll see.
I am also a nurse, so I know a little bit about meds. looking forward to your updated post, and good luck to you- you will be fine
