Default amitriptyline

My dad has been taking this drug for almost 14 years, as he suffers from ME

Over the last 2 years he has started to think the whole world is against him and suffers paranoia when tired.

Is there anyone who could help. we have tried to make him go back to the doctors, but we are unsure about discussing this with his doctor without him?

Does anyone know anything about this subjet? any help would be very appreciated

Phil

I've been taking Elavil since 1972. I first started taking it for panic attacks and it really helped. I've taken several different dosages but for the last 2 years I've been taking 100 mil at bedtime to make me sleep. I've never had a problem with it.

I'm not sure what ME stands for. But anyone who has been taking the same drug for so long can build up a tolerance for it or if i remember correctly it causes depression. Regardless, even if it has nothing to with the medication he is taking, Of course you should call his doctor if he refuses to go. If he feels the whole world is against him it deffiently sounds like he is going thru depression. Please keep us informed, good luck.

I forgot to mention that the Elavil has always helped my depression. Whatever you do please don't let his doctor put him on any of the SSRI medications. I have tried just about all of them and had all kinds of problems with the exception of Lexapro. It's the best one I was ever on. I haven't taken it for over 2 years now. It is the easiest one to get off of too. When I decided I didn't want to take it anymore I just stopped taking it and had no withdrawel symptom's at all.

I was on Paxil for around 6 month's and it made me gain a whole lot of weight but I've been off that for almost 5 years now. Tried Zoloft, Prozac, Serzone, Effexor, Celexa, Wellbutrin and I hated all of them as the side effects were horrible.
