Perton Pump Inhibitor? Is there such a treatment called "perton pump inhibitor" to treat chronic constipation? -
There is a family of drugs called "Proton Pump Inhibitors" which include
Omeprazole (Prilosec®)
Lansoprazole (Prevacid®)
Esomeprazole (Nexium®)
Pantoprazole (Protonix®)
Rabeprazole (Aciphex®
The "proton pump" is the final stage in the gastric acid secretion process in the stomach. Proton pump inhibitors work by blocking the "proton pump" therefore reducing gastric acid secretion.
These drugs are used to treat peptic ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux.
