Default Im New-Can Anyone Help Me?

Hello to All,I am new here so if I am out of line in asking this then please let me know...but I am at my ropes end and dont know what else to do! I recently moved from Fl to E.Tn about a month ago or so and have gone through nothing but hell trying to get the meds I need! I have many health problems and have been on pain meds for about ten years now and cannot be without them for my pain and the docs here dont give two hoots!! I have Firbromyalgia, arthritis, massive scar tissue from multiple surgerys, exploratory colon surg.2 hernia repairs, female problems with endom. and severe pain, need a hystorectomy but cant because i am grown together from scar tissue inside, heart condition that i have had 2 eblasions on for electrical problems that failed,a torn miniscus in my right knee that needs repair, ebstein barr virus and gerd with a hyatial hernia. I have something else going on that the docs have not been able to diagnosed, got sent to a endo doc just to tell me i am fat from smoking and 2 pain management docs that i was sent to wanted to take me off my oxycodone first visit and the doctor that seen me was getting what to do from another doctor that did not even come in to meet me so i tried to get off of the oxy but no luck i have real pain and alot of it so i went back to doc only to be told to come back and the other doc would grace me with his presents finally but that was their plan to cut me off, I never met the other doc that was making the plan and i did bring med records from my pain doc in
fl but that did not matter. I have to put in applications to docs here to see if they will have me as a patient and as soon as they here of all the meds im on they eiather dont call back or they call and say they dont want to see me. I have alot of records i can get faxed and do everything i am suppose to do and not one doctor will give me a chance to get to know me and my pain to see that i am one that needs it. Does anyone know of a good pain doc or interest around east Tn? I appreciate you all taking the time to read my post and i am sorry it is so long but i wanted to explain my conditions and situation. I have a boy in school and had to make a trip back to fl to get my meds and shots from my doc there and i dont want to take my son out of school and move back because im trying to make it work with his father again and i moved also due to my health could not handle the heat in Fl with my heart problem and i was swelling really bad, cooler here and easier on my body. I dont know what to do i only have enough med for about a week and after that i dont know. Any information will help and im willing to drive up to 50 miles. I have been calling my insurance to see if they can help as well. Thank You for hearing me and I hope you all have a pain free day..or at least try. The Newbie, TnBabyDoll1...Hope

I know this may sound dumb, but here goes...have you thought to ask your Dr in Fl if he might be able to refer you to someone in East Tn? Maybe he does and maybe he does't, but it wouldn't hurt asking.

I might not always be right, but I'm never wrong.

    Dear TinBDoll,

My take on your situation is that the doctor's are afraid of the degree of medical fragility you carry with you with over a dozen serious conditions, most painful indeed. If they prescribe the oxy and other pain killers you were on in Florida, they fear your dropping dead, and ensuing law suits. It is usually just the opposite..folks in Florida have a hard time finding a dr who uses opiate therapy. Tin, you need a total rework on your system. Your smoking is killing you, and it is more addictive than >>>>>>. Your drs will not take you serious until you begin to show them your movement toward a healthier lifestyle. I work in healthcare and know there mindset. Credibility is everything. Call your dr in Florida and speak to him/her. Have the Fl Dr. make a letter of referral. Obviously, you will get no where with the current pain clinic. Is your husband willing to relocate with family back to Florida. Tennessee is better than Fla on your med condition??? Too many questions to rightly advise you. I wound up going to see a psychiatrist (an MD) who specialized in pain, and had no problem, even in Florida getting the meds i needed. ..5 disc herniations + diabetic neuropathic pain...I got referred by a knowledgeable social worker. Before i connected with the social worker for a referral to a pain specialist open to opiate therapy, I had literally seen a dr. with NY Rxs in hand, for several opiates,....who said nothing to me..and showed me to the door..then sent me a bill for $165.00. I know how you feel Tin....but only Jesus can put the spagetti in your medical profile back in the box; you need a miracle, and I pray for just that..get support people around you. Do not speak about "my" pain. ...although it is a great deal of your existence..it is not your identity. You have much to offer others if you have suffered as you have. I hope i have not been too direct..most are

I don't know your medical ins status, cash status which always makes a difference...but another provider..thru word of mouth, even a lawyer will know in your area who is not afraid of the opiate thing.
Start with the yellow pages. Call each dr. w/i 50 mile radius. Tell them you have a friend with multiple conditions, be polite, and ask if opiate therapy is one option by that practice for such a patient. Do not give them your name..or have another adult do this for you.

I think the psychiatrist will be the best way to go. ..and i am not inferring mental disorder. You are a living miracle.

Hope you persevere and increase in faith today.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

HI, TN---My husband and I moved to TN from ME. The weather in ME during the winter was not healthy for myself or my husband. We moved here because the land was so much like ME and we enjoy NASCAR and NHRA--TN was the focal point for both. Our first stop was E. TN--Johnson City to be exact. We ran into the same problem. My husband has osteoporsis, a fusion of the T4-5 and T5-S1 (1997) this fusion is fractured in 3 spots and the drs. do not know if it broke or if the fusion never healed. He also has a burst fracture at T-12 and a compound fract. at T-11, degenerative disc disease with bulging at T2-3 and T3-4. The last neurosurgeon he saw in ME took his case to two medical boards. The diagnosis? A 4 level fusion with a 30% chance that his quality of life would be better, or a 8 level fusion with a 50% chance. As of March 2006 (when medicare did their thing with the RX) he was on 80mg. of oxycontin 3X a day, 30 mg. of oxycodone for break through pain. When medicare RX went into effect, we lost the oxycontin (we used to get it through the pharmaceutical company for nothing) so he is trying methodone for the pain. He was on 60 mg. of methodone 3X a day from 3/06 until we got here in good old TN. Unfortunately, if you look on the net--you and my husband are paying for the mistakes of the dr.s that were over prescribing medicine--so much so the DEA got involved (this I also got from a friend of mine). WEll, then we did one more stupid thing and bought a house--el bet a gorgeous house in a town between Memphis and Nashville--E. TN and W. TN is like night & day. DO NOT come to this side of the state it is FAR worse. This dr. he is seeing now, wants him off all his medicine. In both instances (because my husband is under the age of 65) he has been treated like ****. He has been insulted, disrespected by both the drs he has seen here. (Now mind you--WE have ALL medical records, names of drs., addresses and phone #'s that we have provided to both these fools in TN from 1994-2006 of EVERY dr. he has ever seen--yet they still called him a liar, BUT, they will not contact ANY of the drs.--I called each one of the drs. myself) My husband will NOT be able to do anything except walk between the bed and the bathroom--nice life, huh? And for those of you wondering how he gets around (inc. going to the races)--we spent over $30,000 on a motor home just so I can get him from point A to B--he listens to the crowd from the motor home while watching the races on tv and I watch the races from the top of the motor home. He lays down in the bed, while I drive--OH what fun, it gets old after awhile. He has tapered off the Meth, one to help with the withdrawals and two to stock up for the unbearable days--which are MANY. Talk about cruel and inhumane punishment. There is a tremendous difference between taking drugs and NEEDING medication. I should know--I am a retired Police Officer from Pierce County, Tacoma, WA--I more than paid my dues for respect. I wish you luck. I don't know what we will do since we have put all our money into this house, but staying in this state will not be an option.

hi there, there are alot of places just like where you live that its hard to find a dr who wants to help you.your best solution is get a family dr, if he wont help you, then get a referral to a pain clinic, even if you have to travel a ways. a pain clinic would take care of your pain management, and the regular dr would take care of everything else.that is the best advice i can give. you might be looking around for a long time if your looking for a family dr that will do everything. hope this helps.
