The term "date-rape" drug generally refers to any drug w/ sedative or disassociative properties that is used to incapacitate someone for the purpose of rape. The most common drug used in this fashion is good old fashioned alcohol, sometimes in combination w/ perscription sedatives like
valium and
xanax. However, the media has chosen not to hype these cases since they involve products sold by major corperations that also happen to be advertisers for the news outlets. So stories about date rape tend to hype the use of illegal drugs that achieve the same purpose (namely amnesia). Congress recently passed legeslation classifying a group of drugs as "date rape" drugs. I believe this list included GHB, Ketamine and Rophynal (Flunitrazapam or Ruffies), but don't be fooled. Alcohol is still the number 1 date rape drug.
