Thumbs up Weening Off Drugs - Important Notes from a Dr.

I am a Dr. and I get many questions concerning a parent's drug addicted child that is gradually weening off their abused drug.

When a drug user is weening/coming off a drug, different things happen within their body.

First of all, they become anxious. These patients tend to receive different neuron waves within their brain. Some waves make them happy, some waves make them depressed, some waves make them very angry, & other waves give them ambition to go out and do things.

One of the key side effects that parents usually ask about their child who is coming/weening off a drug is the fact that the person may look high or out of it. This is completely normal and you should not worry. All this is, is the drugs gradually leaving the body which come in contact with the blood stream, making an appearance as if one is high, when they certainly are not.

Hope this helps some of you parents out there!

Sincerely,
Dr. Dan

It's kind of hard to confuse the appearance of being high with classic withdrawal symptoms, but I suppose it depends on what the drug was. Most ask about the opioids, no one coming off opioids appear high, they appear, no, they are sick, like a very bad flu.

Thanks for posting "Dr Dan".

To the doctor, I respectfully have to say..... HUH?????? A teen looks high when they are actually coming off a drug. What kind of drug would that be? I have never heard of that or seen that. And I can't imagine ambition being a side effect of coming off drugs. I was a teen on drugs and believe me, no one ever said I lookedbeing overambitious when I was trying to stop taking drugs.

If shaking, cold sweating, diarrhea, insomnia, RLS and all the other side effects of detox are appearing that the person is "high" that is a new one for me. C'mon dr! Post something someone can use if you're going to post or else let us handle this ourseves. We get enough BS advice at appointments where we have to pay too. We don't need that kind of advice here too. God bless.

Unless the so called "Dr Dan" was referring to some psych drugs, but I'm in agreement, quack, quack.
