I would have to say no. Taking a drug to ease the psychological dependency is just substitution, and not dealing with the core issue. I would suggest some Narcanon meetings, or spend a lot of time on boards like this. Once addicted, the psychological dependency will most likely always be there, but the longer you talk about it and analyze it, the less intense it becomes, in my experience. I substituted extremely intense exercise for my addiction in the past, and not only did I stop thinking as much about the drug as I once did, I had a killer bod, to boot!

Just to clear-up some issues regarding Ultram (Tramadol)

Although it is not a controlled substance, it is a u-opioid agonist (ie Narcotic analgesic) Check any PDR - the info is there. It just does not give the same degree of dreamy euphoria as other narcotics do and hence is thought to be of less potential for abuse.

In high enough amounts (I saw one posting that mentioned 20 to 40 tablets per day) tramadol is just as physically addictive as any other narcotic (such as Hydrocodone)and will often cause grand-mal seizures to boot.
