Unhappy Pain & Ice Cold In Hands, Arms and Feet

Has anyone had the following side effects for taking Metoprolof 50 MG's

I have been on Metoprolof for 6 months and I am experiencing ice cold
throbing , aching hands, arms and sometimes foot pain..
It is so painful I can't sleep at night and can not do my daily activities or enjoy my life during the day.?
I have reported it to my doctor's and all they say is: It could be from my medications?? I feel like going out to the woods to shoot myself.!!!
Not one of my doctors has offer any help with the pain nor do they
give me a answers as why the medication are so much causing all the
pain. The pain is unbearable most days.!!!

I would appreciate any input you may have ...or any advice as to what
you have experience...and if you have gotten any help with the pain or if you have experienced any pain taking Metotprolol?? Or any other heart related medications...

Thanks so much !!!!

My first reaction is to think that you are reacting to the medication. Metoprolol is a beta blocker. Beta blockers can cause your blood vessels to constrict affecting your circulation. Let me ask you this question .... have you seen any color changes in your digital extremities? Have you seen it in your fingers/hands or toes/feet. The cold (and especially if there are any color changes) are classic Raynaud's signs. And Raynaud's can be brought on by taking beta blockers since they restrict blood flow. Tell me more please. I've had Raynaud's and other autoimmune problems for decades. I moderate on autoimmune disease forums. Talk to me. If you are having the symptoms I'm describing you need to get off the beta blockers immediately.

Raynaud's has left my hands and feet feeling like they were stuck in an ice chest and I couldn't get them out. It's so unbelieveably painful. God bless.

Thanks for your quick reply and the info...No I have not noticed any color change to my fingers, hands, or arms? Just the extreme cold...and allot of discomfort..??
I will be seeing my doctor soon...I am going to ask that he cut down my MG's to 5mgs
to see if that will help??

Will let you know...Good Luck to you too...Snookers

The extreme cold in your extremities is a potential symptom for a few different problems. Most have to do with your circulation.

Beta blockers are not usually the best medication for someone having this type of problem. Seriously I would ask your dr about switching to a calcium channel blocker instead of the beta blocker. Ask the dr about using Nifedipine. It's the generic of Procardia.

I've been dealing with similar problems to you for decades. If you get the right medication it will help with the throbbing pain that comes from the blood vessels being constricted. Procardia will dilate your blood vessels allowing for easier blood flow and will help your extremities. It comes in both an instant release and an extended release for those with a lower blood pressure.

This is a case where changing a blood pressure medication can actually help with pain. What a deal! Let me know. God bless.
