Default Miserable; can anyone help?

On Opana ER 30mg 2xday for 14days, 40mg 2xday for 26days. Could no longer deal with the side effect of "sweating"...it's the intense heat that builds up like a wave inside the body before the sweating starts that gets so bad I have to take half my clothes off and sit in front of or under a fan full blast for several minutes, several times an hour. At night, two fans; when the heat comes, throw off the covers. It's as if I stepped out of a bath tub into my bed. So...Stopped the Opana after 40 days of plugging thru, and it never got any better. I have MS so the heat thing just doesn't work for me!!

Started Oxycontin 40mg every 8 hrs...Once it starts working, it lasts 5and a half to 6 hours. Been on this for 9 days now. Obviously not at an optimum dose but the problem is....the heat/sweating thing, which started the very first day on Opana, is still going on!! Also, have begun having ongoing sharp, stabbing pains in my head vs. 'just' a headache.

WHY? Since day one cannot sleep either and get a 'nap' at night with 75mg benedryl. Also MS unfriendly.

Sorry this is long.......ANY ideas, suggestions.....God bless you.

Default sweating with your pain meds

i am soooo sorry you are going through this-i know how you feel with the sweating! unfortuntely that is a side effect that many people experience on narcotic pain medications. ive had the same trouble with the opana, oxy ir, oxycontin, percocet, vicoden, dilaudid, demerol and methadone as well-over the years. I wish i had better news to help you but i just wanted to let u know that you are not alone! it is not an attractive side effect by any means either! Hopefully someone else may be able to give more advice but please know that you are not alone!!! Good luck to you and please keep us posted!

Default Thank you Living In P...!

Thanks so much for your reply! I had a dr.'s appt. 2weeks after being put on the oxycontin. Got to see the doc I saw originally at the pain clinic (they rotate, never know who you're going to see), he took me off the oxy and wondered if I'd go back on the Opana ER at a higher dose or try methadone. His preferance was the Opana so I said I'd try again...60mg twice a day. The first dose was that night then the next morning and again at night and I had NO HEAT, NO SWEATING at all!!!

However, the day after that, here came the heat and sweating but nominal compared to previously and not nearly as frequent. When I would wake up during the night or/and in the morning, I would be wet around my neck, my hairline, anywhere my body was tucked up. That was just the sweating without the heat!! It's just past 2pm and the only "hot attack" I've had so far was at 11:30 this morning and it didn't last long at all. I'm guessing I wasn't getting enough medication all this time.

I'm taking Oxycontin 5/325 for breakthru 2xday and I'm having to take them daily so I wonder if I'm at the right level yet. On Avinza I had MSIR for breakthru and only needed it if I was doing too much around the house or if I had to go out somewhere. Going to check and see if Opana makes an IR.

God bless you LivingInPain...I hate to even have to write that as your 'name'! You hang in there too!
