Hello all I am new to the board though I have been a long time user of the site. I have been having problems with Azithromycin. I have been prescribed it before but not with these types of reactions. I would like to point out that I have several allergy's to just about every anti-biotic on the face of the earth it is really hard for me to get treatment for anything. I would also like to state that recently I was prescribed Biaxin for the same reason that I am on the azithromycin which is chronic sinusitis and severe repeated sinus infections and as Biaxin is a full on macrolide antibiotic my D.O failed to tell me that had a severe interaction with alprazolam (Xanax). I had to find out the hard way that it tripled the amount of the alprazolam in your system I take 3mg of that daily so it was like I was taking 6mg, I am also on the 20mg tablets of Oxycodone HCL IMM Release 4x daily which totals to 80mg daily..Well needless to say that the Biaxin sent me almost catatonic state,it also gave me psychosis and hallucinations,thus why they switched me to the azithromycin. I know that the Azithro is still a sub-class macrolide antibiotic, and I am wondering if the same things are going on with it that happened with the biaxin. The dose of the Azithromycin is the 200ml oral liquid suspension,12.5ml the first day then 6ml for 9 days after I am currently on day 5,and I was fine until last night. Late in the evening I started to become very paranoid,EXTREME Nervousness,Insomnia,shaking,sweating,became very very jumpy and hyper with rapid heartbeat,dry mouth with a very bad bad bad taste,and just severe mental depression and strange thoughts the physical symptoms that came on with that are abdominal pain/cramping,bloating,loose stool,very strange skin flaking almost like really really dry skin to the point of feeling like there are pins and needles all over my body some places have even broken open and started bleeding. I am just wondering if it may be because of the Xanax mixing with it since it is a macrolide,or if these side effects are normal or if abnormal has anyone else expierenced them while taking azithromycin (Zithromax).
