I am not a moderator on this site, but I do moderate on an autoimmune disease forum that uses this same software. You can go to the very bottom of this page and see where it says "Contact Us" and then do so. You know they will see that. They won't likely reply to a post. Maybe but I doubt it. I think that I can probably give you the info you need though to answer your question.
There are a huge number of posts submitted to forums, especially one like this that has more posts than most do. And they are posted around the clock. These posts have to be moderated for people trying to sell things, promoting personal web sites, posts that are threatening, links to pornography, vile language, argumentative, all kinds of things. Most all forums have automatic screens established for certain words that would typically throw up a red flag. This one does too. It's their first line of defense to protect everyone, themselves included. These screens edit words that sometimes are really not that bad in the context they are used in a post. But they get edited automatically by the way the screening system is set up. They can't sit and literally read every single word that is written on the entire forum. There are lots of posts here. They spot check things and do their best. They have to use the screens so really bad posts are eliminated prior to being displayed. There are legal concerns ... lots of reasons if you think about it logically. They try to let as many posts get displayed as possible though.
Read the rules of the forum ... any post can be edited or deleted for any reason. All forums are like this. This is one of the most liberal forums I've ever seen regarding editing. I would edit lots more than what they do here if it were my web site. Sometimes real trash gets through as they try to let people express their feelings. So don't take the edit so hard. It was likely an edit that was done automatically if it was just a few words. They just don't have time to write emails about the edits. People with repeated posts that are unacceptable, if bad enough, are even banned from the site for good. That is something all sites with forums do. Forums are cool, but they can pose a lot of potential problems for the site owners if they don't really watch what gets placed out there for the entire world to see. Think about what all they have at stake ... then it makes sense for them to be cautious. It's for everyone's sake. Hope this explanation helps. Take care.
