changing from subutex to methadone

I am taking 24mg subutex I am going to change to methadone. How long do I need to wait so I wont go through withdrawal. Thanks

You will have to have all the buprenorphene out of the brain otherwise the methadone will be blocked.I would say at least 3 days with no subutex.......Dave

I hae never used buprenorphene but I was on methadone for 8 years and it works great as a pain reliever. the problem I had was that a built up a tolorance to the methadone and had to withdraw from it before the pain doc would put me on anything else. He wanted to wean me off over six months but there was no way I could tolorate the extreme pain for that long so I chose to go cold turkey and metadone withdrawal is not fun. I went into the hospital for the first few days and all the staff tried to get me to wean off the drug but I refused and went through hell for a week and then was released and still went through hell for another few weeks. Try to keep your methadone dosage down as low as you can and not take it anylonger then necessary.
