Hey Firewalker6, are lorcets available in Canada? If not what would my options be to replace oxycontin?

Your dr put you on a time released medication so you wouldn't be consuming so much acetaminophen/tylenol. A lorcet has 650mg of acetamiophen, almost the max from one pill for being a toxic dose/amount to your liver. I would NOT go back to lorcets at this point in your treatment even though I don't like oxycontin. In your situation you don't need to be taking lorcets numerous times per day. Your liver will end up shot. God bless.

I'm not sure if Lorcet's are available in Canada or not, but you can get with your Dr. or Pharmicist to see whether or not they are available, soma 350 should be and they are a good muscle relaxer which would take you off the oxy's

Soma 350mg are not going to take you off oxycontin or relieve the pain in the same fashion. Soma is nothing more than a muscle relaxer. That's a far cry from oxycontin. God bless.

I have been noticing lately that oxycontin is not being as effective, at least at the dose I am at now which is 5mg. The reason I need a muscle relaxer is because I have been having horrible back spasms lately as well as the arthritis pain in my back. What other long acting pain relievers are out there besides oxycontin?

Is MS Contin just as effective as oxycontin? One of my friends who has nerve damage in his back said that his doctor put him on straight codeine pills. My back has been so bad lately that is has been affecting my sleep.

My other question is what other painkillers can I take for breakthrough pain? I take percocets and I am finding out that they aren't as effective either. I've been taking percs for a year now. Am I screwed for pain meds or is there a painkiller just as effective as percocet?

It would be better to increase the oxycontin dose than to start taking lorcets. 5mg is the most minimal dose. Perhaps a little higher dose would help. The thing with any opiate is that you will develop a tolerance as you become acclimated to the dose and more is required for the same effect. But stay away from the meds with all the tylenol in them or they'll ruin your liver. Discuss the oxycontin dose with your dr and the lack of effectiveness you're experiencing. God bless.

I am gonna talk to him about increasing the dose of oxycontin as well as asking about muscle relaxers so my back muscles can stop spasming so I can sleep at night.

Hi folks,

I am really concerned about my back. During the day my back doesn't hurt to bad but the later the night goes on my back feels like it's being torn apart. My arthritis upped my dose of oxycontin to 20mgs for night time only. Even at that dose the pain is still unbearable. The good news is that there is a hotel here where I live has a fitness centre that is available to the locals to use as well as the hotel guests. I really concerned that there is something going on that is more serious than arthritis.

This is in the back troubles thread, why whenever you get a prescription for a narcotic pain medication why does it say do not use if you have a curvature of the spine?

Have a question for you folks here,

In the past week my lower back pain has increased 10 fold. Is this normal for arthritis or is it a sign that my lower back is getting worse?
