How old is your son? If he is over 16 testing him will make it worse. If he is under 16...do what lindsay said...see if he is in his jeans at 3am and wearing weird hats and sunglasses at unusual times. Also if you notice pick marks on his face. Also if it takes him half an hour and 10000 words to tell you about his day at school.
