Addicts and Lexpro My son just started taking suboxone for addiction to Oxys. I was very much against him taking it as I see it as just a replacement, but I relented none-the-less. I feel that if he just abstained and maybe took an anti-depressant that he could beat this without the Subs. Anyhow the Dr. also put him on lexapro. He said it was a good anti-depressant for addicts because it helps to control impulsive behavior. I hope to have him on the Suboxone for 1-3 mths only, and I'm hoping that once the lexapro has a chance to get in his system, and when he weans of subs that the lexapro will be all he needs to help with his cravings and depression. What I'd like to know is there anyone out there on the Lexapro who might feel that it helps with their addiction problems andalso if they had any bad side effects from using it?Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -
Lexapro I have been an opiate addict for 8 years. Suboxone has saved my life and I wonder sometimes how i am sill alive after all i have done. I also have been on Lexapro for several years and that is the first time i've heard that about controlling impulsive behavior. But everyone is different. Lexapro does not keep me from having cravings or getting sick when I don't take my suboxone. Suboxone blocks the brain from craving pills. It sits on the neurotransmitters in the brain. That's where pleasure sensations come from. After misusing opiates the brain stops making it's own opiates and relies upon the pills. I have been in two treatment centers and was in a methadone clinic 2 times. Suboxone is a whole lot safer than methadone. You don't get high from it, but it makes you feel "normal" again. I don't even think about a pill anymore when before it was an obssession. I was counting how many I had. I couldn't save any cause if they were there I would do them all. It got to where that is all I thought about. Where will I get more and how will I get more money to buy them. Because without them I could not function. Literally! I couldn't get out of the bed unless I had something. There were times I had rather have died as to have to have gone without. I highly recommend Suboxone. It has changed my life. The Lexapro helps me too, but I couldn't do it without Suboxone. I know I would relapse at this point. I hope i was of some help.Good Luck to you and your son. He is the only one who can do this and he has to want it. Not for someone else, but for himself. In my prayers, chandalovelace@yahoo.com
