Hi All,
New here and wondering if anyone can tell me just how much acetaminophen is too much. I had foot surgery and was perscribed 1-2
Vicodan every 4 hrs, and someone suggested that after 2 hrs if the pain was bad I could take a couple of extra strength tylonols. That sounds like alot. 2,000mg in 4 hrs?

Hey there --

I have been told that you are not to exceed more than 8 vicodin in a 24 hour period. If you are taking vicodin and tylenol together, you need to be careful because vicodin has tylenol/acetaminophen in it.

This is what I found out about tylenol:
Adults: 325-650 mg every 4-6 hours or 1000 mg 3-4 times/day; do not exceed 4 g/day.

trecrop is on point with this one, the max dose of acetaminophen in a 24 hour peroid is 4 grams (4000mg). Use that as a guide, rather than 8 vicodin per day since the amount of acetaminophen varies depending on which formulation of vicodin you get (the ES has 750). If you are still having pain after taking your scheduled vicodin, try ibuprofen (motrin). Try 400mg but stay below 800mg twice a day.
