well im really scared that these thoughts wont go away. I mean I shouldnt of smoked marijuana and have mixed these medications together it was stupid of me. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Since we are not doctors, at this point the only option I can see you have is to tell your psychiatrist about what is going on in your head and about smoking the drugs, you have to be honest with them. If they don't have all the information, they won't be able to give you the help you need.

I am not exactly sure what kinds of thoughts you are having that won't go away, but if they are intrusive thoughts that keep repeating, over and over like a broken record, type of thing, there are some really good meds you could try to treat this, such as Risperdal, Zyprexa and Klonopin pills or wafers. But your psychiatrist needs to prescribe these meds for you and you need to see them on a regular basis and be closely monitored.

Why don't you call in the morning and get an appt as soon as you can. Let us know how you make out. I hope you feel better soon.

They will see you and give you meds,or direct you to where. These feelings are real for you and you need to help yourself before you end up in the place where I work. Not fun!

I've been taking Wellbutrin for 3 weeks for help to stop smoking and started experience EXTREME dizzyness and vertigo. I stopped taking it 2 days ago, but I am still very dizzy. Does anyone know how long this effect might last? I really want it to stop!

From my experience, lower the dosage, and give it time. It originally will make you dizzy. And/or tell your Doctor about the negative side-effects.

I am (was?) dating a woman who started taking Wellbutrin a week ago. Prior to that she was taking Effexor & had some problems with the side effects. Her psychiatrist recommended Wellbutrin, so she tapered off the Effexor (over about 6 days - quickly, in my opinion) and began taking the Wellbutrin.

The problem is this - since starting the Wellbutrin she has been experiencing mood swings. Maybe not really "swings", but her mood varies widely from day to day. One day she will be normal - not manic, but friendly, affectionate, fun, basically the woman I love. The next day she will be so irritable that she finds fault with the smallest thing & even becomes hurtful. Today it got so bad that she broke up with me, saying that she just can't do it anymore and that she hasn't felt the same way about me for a week. This is a woman who, as recently as yesterday (a good day), was telling me she wanted to marry me and start a family (something we've been discussing for some time). I believe that, once she reaches some kind of emotional stability (like she was before) things will return to normal - maybe I'm just being hopelessly optimistic, though.

Has anyone else lived through this type of emotional change? Is it likely to subside in a couple of weeks as the medication begins to work? I'm most concerned because it appears that she cannot be reasoned with - I tried pointing out (diplomatically) the close correlation between starting the medication and the change in her feelings and although she acknowledged it she refused to consider it important. She said she would mention it to her psychiatrist, but who knows if she really will.

Maybe I need to just accept this and move on, but I wanted to hear what others have experienced... Thanks for letting me vent

Digit man you have to get her to her shrink and see about them changing her meds. This can become a real problem if not treated.

I am a paranoid schizophrenic, out of frustration my shrink decided to add welbutrin to my medical cocktail. It sent me into a serious manic paranoid state. Everyone at the office was laughing at me, then they were after my job. Before I knew it I had my best friend in the office threatening to kill him if he did'nt put an end to the conspiracy.
The effects are different for everyone, but it sounds like your gf is on the same path I was.
Understand she does'nt see things the way you do. And the violent visions that you get are sometimes to much.
You really need to read on her condition. My wife did'nt, she got me when I was the perfect sweet package. You need to be aware of the symptons of upcoming manic/paranoid episodes. Then you will be able to help her more & keep your life together more harmonious.

I want to first say that I have been taking Wellbutrin (or a generic version) for about a year now and I find that it is wonderful. I was experiencing major depression, wanting to sleep all the time, crying for no reason, etc and all those symptoms went away immediately. The only side effects I seem to have are waking up in the night a lot (I am able to go back to sleep and don't feel tired in the morning, so no big deal) and severe neck and shoulder tension. My neck and shoulders get so tense that I have to constantly remind myself to relax them. It is like the muscles just bunch up and unless I consciously relax them they stay that way till they hurt.

Has anyone experienced this? Is it an indication that I am talking too much or something. I am on 150mg of the SR version. I would hate to reduce the dosage and have the return of the depression but this muscle tension is a real problem. Compared to some of the side-effects that have been listed on here it probably seems like nothing and I am just very glad to have found something that gets rid of the terrible depression I was gong through.

PS Bart086 - I have a son who is paranoid schizophrenic... he takes his meds most of the time but refuses to believe that he needs them or talk about his condition... any advice on how to get him to at least talk to his doctors?

I tried Wellbutrin to treat my depression and ended up loosing a lot of weight. My doctor told me it was probably a side effect of the drug.

Well I had no problem going on and coming off Wellbutrin..Like many have said everyone is different..Same med they give to folks to stop smoking folks I know that tried it for that found no relief...But if I may and forgive nme if I sound out of bounds but too many docs only go with the textbook dosage and many really just prescribe whatever the drug reps promote to them...Sometimes it takes a "cocktail" of meds or even a older med many are not even using to help some...When I was being treated for Post Traumatic Stess/ Major Depression/ and Panic Attacks let me tell you 1 type of med was not gonna do it...LOL I laugh now but my doc saved my life I know my pharamacy was like WTF is up with this chick...LOL But hey when I felt NADA I was like ..."Uhmmmm Doc, It aint working" He had me on some meds that I was like Nah doc thats for the really crazy folks (sterotypes is a mother.... You name the psych med I was on it my mom was so worried because she wondered how long and why he could not find the "perfect dose" but I had my med case like the lil old ladies have (no disrespect) and I took several meds morning, noon, and night some had side effects that caused me to go from 125 to 175[:0] I had to buy all new clothes but back then I could have cared less about fashion and my old modeling days...But I have to end this with stressing that there really is no magic pill my doc asked me to trust him and I did I can say now I'm taking no psych meds although unless you wanna count Adderall and that pales in comparsion to the meds I was on...Find you a excellent doctor not a good doctor, and I would say if your just seeing the family doc askip him or her and and see someone who is really trained in that field of medicine.. Someone who is a advocate for mental health and knows that most drug reps are only good for free inkpens and sticky pads...Its their job to market and promote whatever med and the company they work for. And please if anyone here is a drug rep please accept my apology I'm sure some are good for other things ..It's just that when you know the truth about some reps (NOTE I SAID SOME) it kind of makes me think they all should be banned ....But then docs could not get free golf trips to great resorts, and free doughnuts for the office staff. once a month etc..

ive been on wellbutrin sr for 15 days now....i feel better ie. i wake up better and dont feel like staying in bed forever like i used to ,i can finish a task from start to finish with out getting distracted and ive lost a little weight. but on the other hand , im very angry from time to time and unexplainably too. im happy 1 min. then out of nowhere anger simular to mild roid rage gets me. has anyone else had this side effect this soon after taking this med?other than the anger i get the jitters like from too much coffee,but overall i feel in good spirits.spirits as in mood, not casper[)].

I took wellbutrin for about 6 months and didn't feel it did anything for me except make me cut down my smoking. It might of lowered a bit of anxiety but not by much. Anyway I weaned myself off them and exercised and feel the same as always so maybe they work for some and not for others.

as I already wrote about in the main forum, I have been on wellbutrin for 7 weeks. I dont feel any difference, and I didnt experience most of the awful side affects people are talking about. The strange thing was that the night of the first day I took it I felt it working REALLY well. like I know for sure thats what it was. my psych says that its impossible but I know what I felt. does anyone know what is WRONG with me to make that happen and then have it not work?? my dose just got upped to 450, and usually I get the smaller doses of pills because im very petite so its weird. It's a placebo effect. Even though physiologically it wasn't doing anything yet, your mind tricked you into thinking it was.

Hello all, I just started taking Wellbutrin for mild to moderate but ongoing depression. I've only been taking it 6 days now. Doing the 150mg SR once a day for about a week before moving to the standard 300mg a day dosage.
I know some people say that they see an "immediate" difference when taking it. I also know that it takes several weeks for it to actually start working.....so, my question is, is there a significant difference between the first few days of taking it and the first few weeks? In other words, am I going to steadily start feeling better? Cause I don't really feel it doing much of anything. Thanx in advance.

While Wellbutrin might be a Godsend for some, I took it for 3 days & had to stop. The first day I felt amazing - on top of the world. The second day, not so much. The third day, I went into a full day and night long anxiety attack - the worst of my life. I thought I was going to die. I was only taking one 150mg XL per day. I thought I knew what a panic-attack was like, but now I know what one REALLY feels like.

I also had ringing in my ears (tinnitus?), short-term memory loss, dizziness, and it felt (feels) like my liver was aching as soon as I started this medication.

Has anyone else experienced this?

How long do these horrible effects take to subside once you've stopped taking the medication (as I mentioned, I've only been taking it for 3 days).

Hi! so i am an opiate addict.I don't take opiates anymore.I was on lexepro for anxiety and depession.I gained 25lbs...made me more depressed.So I switched to generic wellbutrin.And man I am on week 3 and I really feel it.I feel kinda like I did in the past when I tried cocaine. Or I feel like I had 5 red bulls.Is this normal? will it tone down? I hope tp lose some weight though...

I began taking Wellbutrin a little over a month ago. I began taking it to quit smoking, because I knew that I needed assistance or else I'd keep smoking and never stop. The first couple of days were ok, I had severe stomach cramps for a day, but I knew it would pass. After the initial week I actually did quit smoking and things were great, I didn't want a cigarette and even though I sometimes did have that strange yearning for it, it was easy for me to say no. It made me not care. For the first couple of weeks I realized i was very aware, awake, and i could concentrate on a lot of things. It felt good. But slowly something started to happen, I became super irritable, emotional and suicidal. I have manic bipolar disorder and I take Depakote to control it-which works wonders, thank God...also helps with the constant migraines I used to have! On Wellbutrin SR, I had hypomanic episodes that I hadn't experience for a couple of years and even though i knew this was a potential side effect, I was scared of getting off of it...I called my doctor and my psychiatrist and after three days of everyone getting back to me, they said that i could wean myself off of it. I told them no I feared taking it even longer and maybe causing permanent harm to myself. So i just got off of it, i had only had one months prescription and i had and have only one pill left. That was two days ago. The feelings of paranoia and craze are gone, my head is getting back to normal and I feel a little bit more calm. My stomach hurts a bit and I feel tired. BUT what's most important is that feeling of pending doom and negativity is gone. I wouldn't advise anyone to do what I did...I figured I was only on it for a month and I could handle the consequences. I am still smoke free even while off of it...I figure I'd do it again if i had to just to get my ass in gear to quit smoking. I just know to get off of it after a couple of weeks...This is just me, so please don't do what I did...thanks for reading.

I have taken a myriad of anti-depressants, over the years. Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft, and, currently, Cymbalta. About 8yrs or so ago, Wellbutrin was fairly new on the market. My Physician, and a very concientious one as to possible side effects, interaction, etc., suggested I try Wellbutrin. I had never really noticed much in the way of positive results from any of the anti-depressants, to that point. He was rather enthused and had high hopes for the Wellbutrin. Almost immediately upon starting the drug, I began to suffer odd sensations of lack of muscle control, a feeling that a "wave" was passing through me and other hard to describe sensations. In fact, it's only in retrospect, after actually suffering a very violent seizure. One after which, having lost conciousness, I awoke on the floor, bleeding from a cut on my head and arm and lying amidst the contents of a table I'd knocked over. I realized that said seizure was the culmination of all the odd sensations that had been building in my system. Such prior spells would leave me unable to stop the now violent "wave" sensation, loss of muscle control, and a "wave" in my head which took over all thought, apparently the build up to the loss of conciousness I was to have. It was VERY scary. I really was unsure as to the cause of all this prior to my return visit with my Doctor. He listened to my description, thoroughly read the literature about Wellbutrin, and found, way at the end of list of possible side efffects....risk of seizure. I ceased taking Wellbutrin and had no more violent episodes and was clear within a couple of days.

Ok so here goes, I started as the DR rec, days 1 - 3 only 1 pill a day, on day 4 on I was to take 2 pills, normal right? well this wasn't doing it for me, called the dr up, and was informed to take an additional tablet at the Lunch time. doing some research it seems that was still within the relatively "safe" limit so I trusted my dr and added in the 3rd pill.
it was about 1 week later, I nearly wasn't around to type this up... a friend happened to come in at the right time and stop me. I was so freaked out, I begged n pleaded not to be taken in. well my friend didn't but didn't let me out of her sight for the remainder of the weekend either - not even for a bathroom break. WELL THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MY 1ST HINT AS TO THE DANGER OF THE DRUG. Then: I kept getting upset at my wife for every little thing, I couldn't even do anything at work without the people irritating me. again I didn't catch onto this at first. Well I had been on it about 3 weeks, and all of a sudden I am lashing out at friends of mine that are over 1800 miles away for not responding to a fricken text message - well this is when I realized there was an issue. talking with my wife, and my friends from down south, everything dated back (was easy as I started taking them just before Thanksgiving) to about a week after I started taking them. I called the dr up today, and was informed that this happens relatively rare unless there is already an underlying depression type condition (or something like that), he told me to drop it immediately and I already had done this (xmas eve) today is the day after Xmas just to put things in prespective. Monday I am to be at the DR @7:30am and from what I was told there will be some tests I have go thru, and then I'd be put on something different. Now I already know what the answer is going to be for whats wrong (or think I do), but from what I have been reading lithium would be the most common prescription for me. Will that have similar effects? for years (like 20) I've had cronic insomnia - this was definately made worse by the bupropion, I am just wondering have any of you found out by taking bupropion that you have some underlying depression? I didn't even think about it up until what happened to me.

Well for me it has been a MAJOR LIFE CHANGING DRUG. almost lost my wife, DID lose my job something about inability to focus (wasn't really paying attention -not trying to joke) and the other part had to do with threatening a client.

Well you tell me was it worth it to quit smoking? Sure I may live longer, but well....

I'm experiencing some major problems with my 300 mg WB XR. I moved up from the 150 about a week ago, and now my insides hurt (strong ache or burning) all day! Back hurts. It feels like I'm in a never-ending anxiety attack. I've hallucinated in the dark a few times. Major indigestion. Shortness of breath. Extreme dry mouth. Jitters. Just thinking I'm going to die. Basically moderate to severe discomfort, including ALL those symptoms (besides hallucinations), ALL DAY for the past week.

Mentally I've never felt better (besides anxiety). I've noticed a great increase in focus, determination, memory, sexual pleasure, self-confidence, etc. I actually repair computers as oddjobs here and there, but my dad suggested I start an IT/technical computer repair business. Before the Wellbutrin I thought yea that might be cool, but I just don't want to do it... Now I feel amped up and ready to slowly start building up this business, and school seems exciting as well. My capacity and rate at which I gain knowledge over advanced topics such as quantum physics and calculus and so on (or anything for that matter) has probably doubled!!! That's extremely exciting for me so I yearn to learn (hehe...)

Even though my mental well-being has greatly increased, the aforementioned side effects are honestly becoming unbearable! I don't know what the heck to do. Should I revert to the 150 mg xl immediately? Or should I push through the side effects because "they will just go away"? Help me! I have moderately extensive knowledge of anatomy/physiology and know that quite a few of these symptoms could possibly be caused by drug-induced hyperthyroidism, but why my insides constantly hurt is beyond me.

Oh, and random quick pain may occasionally occur on any random part of my body throughout the day (because it just happened). Strange.

Any knowledgeable advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm becoming desperate!

It is the next morning, and all I'm left with is an aching head. Is that a sign of the Wellbutrin leaving my system? Or am I getting used to it? I feel kinda out of it, mentally, as well. Previous morning have been great getting up. I didn't feel out of energy, and I wanted to eat breakfast and start doing stuff. But now, I've slept in until noon and I get up feeling bad mentally. I've been taking a 300 mg dose of it everyday for a week, but I think it's the generic brand. It's an oblong yellow pill. I don't really trust generic brand extended release pills of any drug because they are shaped quite differently, and therefore dissolve at a different rate. Hell! The coating of the thing starts to quickly dissolve AS I'M TAKING IT!... leaving a yucky taste in my mouth. A week's worth of Wellbutrin can't get out of your system THAT fast, can it?

With Wellbutrin Yes I have symptoms of sweating, flushing, actually can't tolerate temperatures above 65˚F all of the time (& can't fall asleep without ice pack) and during a flash I'm comfortable at 56˚ F or cooler, yet I live in the south, my ancestry is northern. I don't have $ to move north. I'm taking two other meds with this side effect, yet both psyc., family, and endocrinologist doctor I speak with doesn't acknowledge these meds are the cause. Can anyone give me a medical name for this in doctor terms so I might be taken more seriously by them? Menopause has come and gone that is not the issue. THis isn't an issue of comfort, I'm prone to heat exhaustion and heat stroke, yet no one appreciates that, I really feel sick, and unfortunately I must be on these meds. for psyc. reasons to function at all and endocrinology. This is a BIG problem for me indoors and in the summer.

I was taking Lexapro with my pain med Oxycodone 5 mg. low dose for a year. I was fine..when the doc cut my oxycodone script in half abruptly, I might add, I began having severe depression. I barely recall the month of january. My days were eat, lay on the couch and worry, incessantly. If it weren't for my pets, I wouldn't have moved. Went off the lexapro, tried prozac. Prozac actually helped my pain but didn't do squat for depression and it had worked in the past. It seems that what med you take depends on the nature of your depression. Prozac worked great when my mom died and I was able to get off of it within 6 mos. that was years ago. Fast fwd back to this year. finally broke down and went to doc. He put me on 300 mg. of Welbutrin. 150mg 2x day. I'm not as tired, sluggish and apathetic but I so irritable I could kick puppies. lol. Every thing gets on my nerves. and the anxiety and racing thoughts are off the hook. Wondering if the anti D's have different effects on you when taking narcotic pain killers? Would Zoloft possibly help? I heard it curbs appetite and because of my leg pain I have gained 60 pounds which is making me really miserable too.
