Default Tryptophan

I have had sleep issues for 7 years now. been on everything to help including ativan, trazodone, elavil, imovane, remeron plus herbal remedies etc... My doctor started me on Tryptophan, which I read is an amino acid found in certain foods. I do believe I have a Tryptophan deficiency as I am also anemic. Question- is this safer to take than regular sleep meds ( comes in 500 mg doses- I take 1500 mg/night). I am also on Wellbutrin. Any advice would be great.
