Hi everyone,
I need some help on this subject and i would really appreciate your comments. Basically, i found myself in a very tricky situation, not only because things get tricky when alcohol consuption is added to any antianxiety/ antidepressants medication, but because is not about me, is my mum - and i have no control of her life. she is 52 and she's only came to live with me about a month ago, when i have start to notice that although she's taking tranxene(10mg now from 5mg) daily and has been done for the past 3 years, she drinks alcohol everyday. The amount of alcohol varies from one day to another, but she will have at least 2 - 3 cans of Stella in a 'good day'. For example, she finished a bottle of cherry or tequilla in 3 days on top of her daily beer intake and possible that she had some wine as well. it might not seem too much for a healthy person, but given the fact that she is taking tranxene it worries me. I have read a lot about this drug, i know it has been dicontinued in UK, that is not meant to be taken for so long, but at the moment i'm more concerned about the alcohol abuse on top of it. i have taken her to a doctor, which has totally disregarded her and even refused her treatment. i have called the nhs direct line in uk, but still didn't get enough info. i.e. long term damage, memory loss, etc - and this is what i am looking for - can anyoane help? how will she be in 5 year time? the way she looks these days, manytimes absent, manytimes spaced out, i fear the worst... every doctor i spoke with said she has to stop at oance. but how??? from what i read the withdrawl symtoms are quite bad and she will back on it in no time...
i can certainly see a dif between her a few years ago and what she is today. she is very slow, both mentally and physically, or let's say she is not very sharp lately, she can't eat, or should i say she never fees hungry, get's down very very easily, very emotional etc.
much appreciated!
