Default Topamax and alcohol cravings

I started taking Topamax 5 days ago as a monotherapy for bipolar II condition. Also, it should keep me from eating and drinking too much.

I noted, it works in this respect so far. Cravings are gone. But how far gone? Has anybody got long term experience with Topamax. Months? Years?

I was on topamax for 2 years. My appetite stayed down the whole time. I was eating less then my young kids at meal time, and half the time I wasnt hungry at all. It did cause me to have severe stomach pains over time though and that is partially the reason I didnt eat much, it always felt like I had just eaten. I lost a fair amount of weight, but it wasnt worth the pain!

I have been on Topamax for 3 years. I went on it when it was first considered to treat bulimia. It has been a miracle drug. The positive side effects have not seemed to go away. I can finally say I am not suffering from that horrible disease. It is a good drug if it is prescribed for the right people. I am reading now where doctors are prescribing it to overweight people along w/ an antidepressant. That really makes me upset because that is clearly an abuse of a drug. It is sad that I will have to probably be on this drug for a majority of my life but as long as it keeps me healthy, I am fine with staying on it. Good luck with your treatment!
