    Default Subsitute for Ultram/tramadol?

Hi, im a 16 year old boy with a herniated disc, L5. I have chronic pain down my leg and i have for about 2 years. Ive been prescribed also to Ultram for 2 years. I recently stopped taking ultram for about 2 days because i had a good pain free 2 days. During those two days of hell i realized my body was addicted to it. I always take my pills just when i have pain, i dont run to take them just for the hell of it. And i was wondering if there was some kind of subsitute for tramadol, a supposably NON addictive painkiler? PLease respond and thank you.

I know what your going through and I understand what your saying.I was very young too when I herniated my disc in L4-5.You want to stay away from opiates unless it's absolutely necessary.Tramadol has the pain killing strenght equal to Tylenol #3.There really isn't alot to choose from although you should be taking a anti-inflammatory like Motrin or Advil. These drug help keep inflamation down around the disc that way you won't have as much sciatica pain down your ass and leg.Are you going to physio therapy???If not then you should really.Have you seen a neurologist or a neuro surgeon. The surgey they can do now for herniated discs is quite successful and is down in day surgery.Meaning that you go in the hospital in the morning and have the surgery and your back home usually before supper.Good luck to you and go see your doctor asap.....Dave
