Default Suboxone

Hi all, I'm starting this new thread to try to get some feedback and support and information from other Suboxone users. I have been on Suboxone for going on Six months now. I'm more than just a little concerned about coming off. I also have some questions about other peoples side effects. I'll not go into detail now but if I get some replies, then I'll go further. Thanx >>>>TOM

Im going to jail in a week for a D.U.I. yes i was stupid enough to get one. Any ways do any of you know what i can do to get into a detox program insted of detoxing in jail.I've been adicted to opiats for 12 years mostly morphine oxycontin and hydromorphone also fentanyl
when i can find it.But I had to detox in jail before and it was a nightmare.

Torxis replies:
Yabatab, been there, done that! Yes it was a nightmare 4 me 2. My advice to you is to admit yourself into either a hospital or detox program in your area. I don't know where you live or I would try to find you one. The police can't touch you if your in a detox/rehab. Even if you go into a hospital that doesn't "do" detox, it would be better than coming off in jail. Also, if you go to the Suboxone website link at the bottom of my post, find a doctor in your area, and do a 4-5 day suboxone detox at home if you have time.

yabatab:
Thanks for the advice i called about the suboxone program in my area but it coast close to 1500$ to start the program which i dont have at the time. But it sounds like something i might do in the future when i have the money to start that. It was a year long program that included NA meetings. And I Know what your thinking its cheaper than buying pills off the street and yes it is but i have done spent the last of my saveings "550$" on morphine and xanax.

Torxis: Hey Yab, I don't know where you looked, but $1500.00 is way too much to pay for Suboxone treatment. The way it's supposed to work is you find a doctor in your area that's licensed to prescribe Suboxone. You go in for an initial office visit. This visit costs a little more than a regular visit because you may have to stay for a few hours. Most docs have you go home for a few hours and come back. The initial visit cost me $150.00, I pay 50 bucks to go in for follow-up scripts. I've heard of docs charging as much as $250.00 for the first visit but 1,500 is way out there. I don't know if that is for an inpatient program or what. Treatment can take place at a regular doctors office though with a script that you fill at your regular pharmacy. The Suboxone.com website has a doctor finder which makes it easy to find one in your area. I had to make several calls to find the least expensive one. You should keep trying and not give up hope. Opiate withdrawl can kill you. Yes, you commited a DUI, but you shouldn't be tortured because of it. As I said before, if all else fails, admit yourself into a hospital. Insurance or not, they have to take you, even if you end up paying them 5 bucks a month. Good luck, please let me know how you make out. I'm going to post this on the forum as well in case you fail to get the E-Mail. Some of these forums have ****py E-Mail.>>>>TOM

Tom,
I am new to this board, but not new to Burprenorphine or Suboxone treatment. Since this treatment is so new, the discontinuation track record has not been successfully established. Many Suboxone patients only recognize the issues coming off their medication when their doctor puts them in a taper before they are ready. I pity those that want to continue with the treatment, but the doctor is looking at his waiting list and insisting a patient come off the med. This is happening far too frequently.

I have been working quietly with a group that supports lifting of the 30 patient rule. While working with this group, my education on Suboxone has grown. The most successful tapers have been very slow and long. After a patient gets to the daily dose of 2 mg, going to 1mg. is recommended. After stabilizing there, then 1 mg. every other day. And then every third day. I did hear from one patient that was tapered on Buprenex, the injectable form of Burpenorphine. The only reason for this was dosage control. This is a hot topic among Suboxone patients....one I feel we cannot ignore......who knows what circumstances may make us deal with it before we are ready.

Side effects are all over the map. Many report an allergy to the Naloxone in Suboxone. If they have a compassionate doctor, they are put on Subutex. But the side effects I have heard and read about are as different as the people taking the medication. My reactions are minimal. If anything, I get the "speed" effect (mild insomnia, jitters if I don't eat, lack of appetite). If I don't keep up my water intake, I have mild swelling in my hands. Other than headaches I experienced my first week, there have been zero other s/e.

Please feel free to contact me at dixiegirl419@hotmail.com

Be well,
Dixie

If you are in the Atlanta area, you can call Dr. Aaron Hurowitz. He will write scrips for Suboxone and he does house calls. It's $20 for the house call and then you get the scrip filled at the pharmacy.<p>

I had him come to my home for migraine treatment, and he prescribed the Suboxone for pain. Doesn't work for me, but I know it does for some, and is great for addicts. <p>

His number is 404.317.8475, and you can call 24/7. If he is not in your area, maybe you can call for a reference.<p>

Good luck, everyone!

Default Suboxone

I was interested your information about Dr. Hurowitz. My daughter is a heroin addict, has been through a 28-day residential program, and wants to get on Suboxone. She is having a tough time with cravings. Dr. Hurowitz does this type of thing?

Any other recommendations? A couple of years ago she tried a doctor in Lilburn, GA, but at the time she wasn't really wanting to quit, now she wants to quit desperately. Anyway, the doctor in Lilburn charges $350 to start the program, then $100 per month just to come in to the office to get the script. Does this sound right?

Thanks!

My last dose of Suboxone was well over 20 days ago. So far so good!

However, I have continuously "weaned" to a crumb every 4-7 days or so. That "weaning" process began about a year ago when I tried to jump off at .5 mg a day. Boy was that a NIGHTMARE!!! I thought for sure I was screwed! Why try and withdraw from oxy's if the pain was so much the same getting off the sub's? Right? Wrong! For me anyway.

Suboxone weaning NEVER gave me the "urge" to use more or over indulge. It never made me weak in body or mind while weaning. If I felt badly from too low a dose, I just took a little more.......

I was lucky enough to find a doctor who understood ME. Not just someone who was knowledgable about addiction, but who was teachable....... He understood my hesitations, fears and concerns and allowed my almost 4, yes 4 years to do it in "my time" and not the time of some doctor who thinks they know what is best.

My best thinking got me here!
