Default Starting Lexapro

I've new to this forum, but am very glad to find people are talking openly about their experiences. I've recently had anxiety issues surface only weeks ago, and my DR. started me on Lexapro -- 10 MG, one pill per day. It's nearly been a week, but I'm having severe shakiness, nervousness, or the feeling I've had 10 cups of coffee for a few hours during the day. It's been like this now for about 5 days (since taking the Lexapro) - is this a normal side affect for Lexapro while beginning the drug? Do these side effects ever go away?

Just an update for anyone interested...they took me off of the Lexapro because it was having the reverse affect - more anxiety. They stopped everything excect the occasional Ativan when needed. Things have improved much since. Started talking walks and getting more active, it's helping a lot.

I was prescribed 10mg Lexapro in 2003 as first treatment for major depression (with a HUGE anxiety component but I was told this is often part of depression & first drug should be antidepressant& not to take tranquilizers unless it didn't work.I was told to expect some anxiety as side effect initially but Lexapro had been chosen as it supposedly had fewer side effects & worked more quickly than other antidepressants. After waking up in an absolute PANIC every morning for 11 days, my dr took me off it saying the side effects were too severe & lasting too long. After a day off I started 25mg Zoloft, same a.m. anxiety but it went away after a few days.Same occurred at 50 mg, 75 mg, then at 75 mg I started to have a good response.100 mg same occurred but gone within few days.Whole adventure took about 2 months. No recurrence of anxiety.1+1/2 yrs on 100 mg, 1 yr on 75 mg, currently on 50 mg.No recurrence of depression.(LOTS of therapy, still!)
