Stadol NS sucked....yes, it helped with the pain, but it also turned me into a raving b*tch...& couldn't function at work or even at home because it made me so sleepy...this was years ago, is it even still on the market in the nasal spray form?

Yes I have taken it for migraine and I agree; the side effects are almost worse than the pain.

It also altered my mood, to the negative extreme. It also gave me severe sinusitis that turned into 3 months of sinus infections, one after the other. Even though my pharmacist warned me of the addictive potential, I can't see how ANYONE would WANT to feel...chills, sweats, rages, and EXTREME insomnia. I found it made me exceptionally dysphoric.

IMO, it should be reserved for the ABSOLUTE WORST headaches imaginable. Cluster headaches or Status Migrainosus

PS: The name brand has been discontinued but it is still available in generic form, in the U.S. Butorphanol Tartrate Nasal Spray; it's a fairly expensive medicine (~$4 per dose). There is only 1 person at my pharmacy (I work in a pharmacy) that takes it with any regularity. In a city of over 200,000 - that's not very many.

It is also used in hospitals in IV form for labor pains, I think.
