Default SKELAXIN

My Dr prescribed 800mg Skelaxin for chronic muscle spasms in my upper & lower back. I have an EXTREMELY high tolerance for any pain medication, muscle relaxers, xanax, valium, even allergy pills. The 800mg isn't doing squat for me, does anyone know if taking a 2nd Skelaxin about an hour after the 1st would be OK? My physical size shouldn't really matter given my tolerance for this kind of stuff but I'm 5'7" and 125lbs in case, for some reason, it SHOULD.

Hi there,
I agree that Skelaxin does nothing! As for your question, the highest dose recommended is 800mg 4x a day. The med is to be used cautiously if you have a history of seizures, so taking more would increase this risk....but, I have taken double the dose and have been fine, although I still felt no relief. Maybe you should ask for a different muscle relaxer. (Soma, Flexeril, Zanaflex)

Thanks for your response! To me Flexeril is like candy as is Ultram. We're military so I rarely see the same Dr twice however this woman I saw a few days ago has me demanding to be switched from Internal Medicine to one of the Family Practice clinics. She interrupts me, doesn't listen to my symptoms - she TELLS me what my symptoms are - & I'm really hacked off about it. I'll check the links you listed as well.
Thanks again!

Oh my gosh mailman, thank you so much! I just read up on Zanaflex & this caught my attention:
Zanaflex is used to treat increased muscle tone associated with spasticity.
The knots in my upper back & shoudler are so huge that when I'm leaning back into a chair or sofa I can feel the "unevenness" in my back. In a few days I'll make another appointment & bring this up to whatever Dr. they happen to stick me with.
THANK YOU!

I am currently taking 800mg of Skelaxin 4 times a day for severe lower back pain with very little results. As with the rest of you every thing I have taken so far has been like taking suger pills. The pain became so bad that 3 years ago I finally had to quit my job. Now finances require that return to work so I have an appointment with my doctor on the 7th to see if she can give something else so I will see about Zanaflex you refer to. I just hope that Skelaxin wont show up on a drug test, does anyone know about that?

Smile Skelaxin vs Zanaflex

I too tried 800mg of Skelaxin 4 x a day with no relief of a chronic back condition. My doctor, too, put me on 4mg of Zanaflex 3 x a day and made all the difference in the world. I'm telling you!! For you who have never tried it, it might be a little strong at first, but you get used to it, hopefully, because it helps sooo much better than the others. I'm so glad my doctor tried it, or I would still be suffering those horrible back spasm's and muscle pain and stiffness. It was unbearable before Zanaflex. I wish the best of luck to each and every one of you. I hope it works great for you too. Take care.
