Default Question about Remeron

My actual prescription is:
-Paxil 30mg for OCD(Obsesive Compulsive Desorder) and Depresion.
-Remeron 30mg for my Chronic Insomnia.

Remeron 30mg and klonopin 2mg every night give me 8 hrs of sleep.
The side effects are many: Sleepiness, feel less active and the MAIN problem: The WEIGHT GAIN. Already 60 lbs since i started on Remeron(2 years ago). At this point i cant stand it anymore and im looking for an alternative to Remeron for the chronic insomnia.

What medicine may I take instead of Remeron?

Already tried some alternatives:
-All the benzodiazepines including Alprazolam,Midazolam,Bromazepam,Temazepam,........
-All the "Z" drugs: Ambien(Zolpidem), Sonata(Zaleplom), Imovane(Zopiclone), Lunesta(Eszopiclone).
"Ambien worked for a while but i build tolerance and it stopped working"
-Neurontin(Gabapentin),Seroquel(quetiapin),Rozerem( Ramelteon),Desyrel(Trazodone).
"Noone of them ever worked"

1)Is there ANYTHING in the world besides Remeron that can make me sleep? Please all the suggestions will be very appreciated.
2)I recently knew that Organon is developing the (S)-iso-mer of REMERON(MIRTAZAPINE). Where can I find more information about this new development?

Thanks a lot.

Enrique from PERU.

You are not going to like the mix of drugs you are on when you eventually have to withdrawal from them all and there will come a day when this has to happen. I would start with the anti-depressants first then do the clonazapem last. It will be a very, very, long process. Find something to help you sleep that isn't a drug. Trust me, I'm speaking from first hand experience. Dawn.

michigan resident, prev. on klonpin, ativan, xanax, remeron, beta blockers. am currently down to only taking klonopin and have tapered from 2mg per day to 1/2mg per day tapering at 1/8mg every 3-wks to a month.

Recently my Doctor asked me if i have ever tried to combat my insomnia with muscle relaxants.
As you know i use Remeron 30MG but what about SOMA (carisoprodol)??
Do you think it is a good alternative??
I heard it is highly addictive and lethal in high dosages, but the question is : Has anyone tried it to combat insomnia??
I would really appreciatte you to share your experience with me.
Thanks a LOT.

Desesperately,

Enrique from PERU.

Ask your Dr about Roserem. It is a new sleeping medicaton that can be taking nightly without dependancy. I've tried it (I too have insomnia) and it worked very well.

I didn't notice Lunesta in your list. Same thing. Designed for long-term use with out dependancy or tolerance building.

Good luck!

quote:Hello Enrique,
I am sure there will be many who disagree with this option, but I am also currently on remeron, effexor and a kolonpin chaser. before this they had me on zyprexia - that is a tranquilizer (i am told) and although it did put me out for 4 to 5 straight hours (a vast improvement over naps of 1 1/2 - 2 hrs max, 2 or 3-if i was lucky- times a night)I had to have an upper to pull me out of it long about 2 a.m. or I was a zombie for 7 to 9 hours after my actual sleep. I've been on countless anti-depressants including paxil which did help at first to keep my brain from producing physical signs of my condition, I'd break out in patches of swelling and shaking uncontrolably, are only 2 of the weird things i was doing to myself. but it was only a brief and superficial relief. and did nothing to help me sleep (at that time, I slept maybe 1 to 2 hrs per night, and never all at once). As soon as I returned to work any help I was getting from it fell flat on it's face.
Anyway, long story short (too late) I've been reading the horror stories about effexor's side effects and worse trying to quit taking it, and have to say, the combination of these two, and once in a while the kolonopin, have brought me to a place that is as close 'normal' as I've been in 8 + years. the two seem to balance out pretty well. I actuallally get 4 to 5 straight hours of sleep and I'm not a zombie the next day, nor do i have a 'bed time' by which i mean a time i have to take my pills by if i want to funciton the next day. having a 'disorder' that requires treatment from these kinds of medications, at least so far as I've found, requires you to put your vanity aside. I was, before treating with the first medications, 125 lbs, 5'6", and still looked at certain parts of me as 'fat'. Boy, I had no idea what fat was until zyprexia. 50+ lbs in just over 2 months! 60 days. you might want to explore some other main medications besides paxil to see if you can find a better balance. I wish you the best of luck on your search for the long lost, all night, deep, zombie-less sleep.

Im actually taking Remeron 30MG and Clonazepam 2MG every night to get some sleep (8 hrs aprox) but still i have a lot of side effects the next day, i feel less active and withdrawn, i feel very very sleepy but thats not the main problem. The main problem is the weight.
I already gained more than 60 lbs since i started Remeron (2 years ago) and now i cant stand it anymore, so im looking for an
alternative because the only solution for this problem is to quit on Remeron. But what sleeping pill should i take instead of Remeron? (i know that Remeron is not an sleeping pill , its an antidepressant but i take advantage of the side effects)
I cant reduce the dosis because lower doses are more sedating and thats true on myself(i already tried that)
I already have taken all the benzodiazepines including Alprazolam , Midazolam , Bromazepam , Temazepam .........
I already have taken Ambien (Zolpidem) , Sonata (Zaleplom) and zopiclone. They were good a time ago but they lost
efficacy.
My Dr. has given me some choices, for example i tried Neurontin or some antipsicotics like Seroquel in low dosis to get some sleep
but no one of them worked .
Is there anything in the world besides Remeron that can make me sleep? Please all the suggestions will be very
appreciated . Thanks a lot .

Enrique

I would stay away from soma, there are seizure possibilities if you get addicted...plus it stops working and like all good things you need more

I suggest trazadone, another antidepressant with sedating qualities.
