Default OXYCONTIN

Does anyone know why there is such easy access to such a terrible drug? Last week a friend of mine from high school died from "speed balling." He (like me) was a severe Oxycontin addict. Why is this drug out there? Too many people get hooked and the other day I heard a 16 year old kid talking about snorting it.
I would break it up and freebase it. Pathetic.
I wish that our government would recognize and do something about this problem. They have something huge against marajuana, but honestly I have never heard of someone over-dosing, or getting in fatal car accidents from weed using.
I am just frustrated and I don't understand why I let this happen to myself and my friends. It's not me, it's not who I am or who I am supposed to be.
Oxycontin is evil!!!

It really isn't a "terrible drug" unless it's abused, it is an excellent pain med, that's why it's out there. It's really not that easy to get a prescription for. As long as drugs have been around, and that's since time began, someone has figured out how to profit and exploit them. Blaming OC is like blaming a gun for someone's death. People have to take full responsibility for the illicit substances they put in their body, they made the choice.
Oxycontin really isn't evil, it's probably the best drug on the market for people in chronic pain.
But, "I feel you".

Cats is right, I have a scrip each month for Oxy, and I don't have any problems, I take it as prescribed, which is up to 3 times a day as needed for breakthrough pain. So some days I don't use any, some days I use all 3 throughout the day.

The government is trying to use various methods to crack down on abuse, including making it harder to get a scrip for, and that is why chronic pain patients often have to suffer, because people like you have abused them and made it harder for us to get the help we need. You can't blame the drug.

Thanks to abusers, I have to go to my doctor, who is an hour and a half away from me, every single month to get a new scrip for my pain management meds, no refills allowed anymore. Even though she knows I don't abuse them, and when she sees me each month, I usually still have some left and am not even out yet, neither one of us has any choice.

Drug companies are also trying to stop the abuse, some are adding substances to their pills so if you try to crush it up or chew it, it forms a gummy icky mess that neutralizes the opiate. Others are looking into adding neutralizers to various pills that will be released if you break the pill to defeat the time released ones.

No there is nothing wrong with this drug at all. It helps millions of people with chronic pain get through their lives every day. You are just blaming the company for your own problem. You were not prescribed it and should not be taking it. Its entirely your fault.

It is the everyone is a victim mentality, no one wants to take responsibility and say it was their fault for abusing a drug they weren't supposed to be taking anyway. They would rather blame the manufacturers for making it in the first place. But it is an excellent drug, when used legally and as prescribed it helps many, many people, when they have reached the limit of relief from other pain killers.
