My dr. took me off hydromorphone and put me on oxycodone for breakthru pain and I gotta' tell ya the oxy don't cut it . I'm still on 40 mg. a day methadone or i'd be climbin' the walls. Tom
What Oxy did he put you on? If it is a low dose of the instant release instead of an Oxycontin 12 hour type, then it will not cut it for you very well at all. Especially since you are using Methadone.
Yea if its just generic Percocet (2.5, 5, 7.5, 10), then no its NOTHING compared to Hydromorphone (Dilaudid). The Big D is one of the strongest Rx Narcotics available. Oxycodone in a time released form (20, 40, 80, and 160 mg) is quite comparable in the higher doses.
Actually to be a generic Perc it would also have to have Acetaminophen in it, it appears this poster is talking about just Oxycodone which would be the instant release.
It comes either as Oxy CR or ER, which is the extended release generic for Oxycontin or the Oxy IR (which is also called Roxifast) and that is an instant release.
But he is right about going from Hydro down to regular Oxy, they would have to give you a higher dose to even have it's pain relief properties compare, a low dose such as 10, 20 or 30mgs is not going to cut it.
