Question Not heavy enough for Meridia ?

Hi everyone. My first time here, I am 5' 5" and 178 lbs My BMI(body mass index) is 29, Just Obese. My doc says I'm not large enough to prescribe Meridia. Can anyone here tell me how big they were when they started on Meridia. I think it could help me and if I had some back-up , maybe my doc would listen.

Your best source of information for these types of questions are the drugs monograph. Here it is for Sibutramine (Meridia). Perhaps you can talk to your physician about trying Phendimetrazine (Bontril).

Well I would ask my doctor what is an ideal weight for u?
According to the manufacturers and FDA you need to have a BMI of 30 or more. So while you could stand to lose a few pounds, they really want people to be at least 30pds or more overwieght. I weigh 230 and am currently taking Meridia. I dont know what my BMI is but Im sure its WAY more than 29. Historically speaking there was alot of abuse of this drug when it first came
out, and alot of people out there were taking it only needing to lose 15 pounds or so, it seems like people who need to lose less than 25 pounds c/o more of side effects including stroke symptoms.
Another reason for your doctor's reluctance to prescribe the drug, could be other meds you may be on that might intereact with this drug.

I hope this helps.
